Web Africa DSL Complete users please note!

Sup dawg :p

This thread is here to inform their DSL Complete users to upgrade/convert their account or they'll be stuck paying the old prices. I don't want to turn this into a debate about who is better or cheaper or how "crap" Web Africa are and why we shouldn't use them because of their pricing. I'd like people to save some bucks by converting to the new pricing because I feel Web Africa miscommunicated that part (another blunder, if not, very underhanded) and that they should convert/upgrade their packages immediately.

There's already 2 threads active about their pricing which you can go chat on/show your distaste of their pricing :)

Cool. Peace!

The upgrade did cause some confusion with certain customers, but we did categorically say you would need to upgrade to the new range to receive the better pricing.

The reason we couldn't do it automatically for the Complete range (we did do it automatically for the Data range) was that there were logistics involved (differing line speed etc) and we also not sure which customer would want which packages.

We created a recommendation system to try make is as easy as possible.

I think this is VERY misleading, and at the very least WA can send out an email clarifying the situation. If I did not follow the debate here, I would not have done anything and get charged the higher cost. This is what I have in the notices I received:

On 19 February:
In a continual effort to enhance our value offerings it is with great excitement that we announce our revised DSL Complete product range with some of the most competitive pricing in the industry. In order to take advantange of the new range simply click below to upgrade. Customers will not automatically be migrated.

In my case, the recommendation and the link to click, leads to the Complete 2 package, which I am NOT currently interested in as it it more expensive. On 20 February, I received and email stating the following:

It is our pleasure to announce our revised ADSL products. In a continual effort to enhance our value offerings, on March 1st, pricing reductions and bandwidth increases will be automatically applied.

So what is it then?

1. Was WebAfrica going to keep on charging me extra until I noticed it?
2. How many other people are in the same situation?
3. If WebAfrica is aware of this, why are they not sending out a clarifying statement?

I can only conclude that WebAfrica is taking advantage of the ignorance of their customer base?

I still don't understand why you would want to get this "Complete" package from Web Africa. A 4Mbps line directly from Telkom and bandwidth bought from Afrihost still works out cheaper than getting the equivalent "Complete" package from Web Africa.

Please don't tell me it's for the "convenience" of having everything on one bill.

I received an account for R199, which I queried with their billing department. this is the reply I received:

"Hi

Kindly note your old package was a Shaped 3GB for R198.98 where you received 3GB for the month.
This package has now been changed to Data 2 for R199 pm where you receive 4GB, this is
33% more bandwidth."

No mention of any lower pricing whatsoever? So what gives?

Note that some of their data packages (like the one you mentioned) got a boost in bandwidth and didn't necessarily come down in price. This topic is about the ADSL Line + Bandwidth (the "Complete" range)

@deweyzeph: I agree, but this isn't about pricing, or who is cheaper than who or what you should do or how you don't understand what the reasoning behind this is. At the moment it's an information exercise so that we can get people that DO have their ADSL lines with web africa to convert or "upgrade" them to benefit off of the new pricing structure, because WA neglected to mention that the new pricing structure is ONLY for accounts that does this conversion and that the old accounts will still be charged for the same price previously. I can understand, from their perception, that they did say that you won't be converted or "upgraded" automatically, the problem is just they weren't clear about the fact that you HAVE to do it in order to benefit from the new pricing structure.

So I'd respectfully ask you to debate their pricing choices in the other threads, and point all your friends who do have this service with WA to this thread so they may get informed and convert their packages to get the new pricing :)

So this means I am stuck at this rate and there is nothing that can be done, except moving to another ISP? Pathetic if you ask me.

Yes, but I believe you'll be getting 4gb shaped now for R199... there's always cheaper bandwidth options out there

I've just been through the email again, and I fail to see the categorically anywhere. All I see (as in my other post), is automatically applied.

BigAl moves off to look at "recommended ISP threads"

The email he was quoting was the Data email and not the complete one. Thats why I asked.
I only received one email and there's nothing in that email to indicate any distinction between data and complete. In fact, looking at their web page(s), there is nothing to indicate any upgrade path(s) whatsover.

But which one do you have? A DSL Complete package (line + data) or just a data package?

One vs Two emails

I got BOTH messages, as quoted above. I still think it is misleading.

This is an unashamed bump to keep the thread alive. WA have been very quiet on this.

As AcidR said, you should have been able to read between the lines that I am on a complete package.

Thanks, I'm not losing my marbles...

Another slightly disgruntled WA customer here - I also read automatically applied and then did nothing. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and boo to Webafrica for how they have handled this!
