I’ve been working on a new web site idea for a while now and the more I work on it the more and more promising it looks, however, the more I work on it the more I realise I simply don’t have the programming/development knowledge to effectively create the site so that it works properly and efficiently.

I’m looking for a developer business partner to take care of the development side of things. Preferably someone who has an extensive knowledge of development and programming in general. I will do the business side of things, conceptualization, marketing, etc and whatever else I can do

This is not a paid position! For the type of developer I have in mind this should be easily accomplished in his/her spare time, weekends, and so on. The agreement would be a percentage ownership share between myself and the developer as the creators of the site.

I wont go into any details about the site until we’ve both signed a non-disclosure agreement. Suffice to say, although I don’t really know how complex the site actually will be, it’s not something like a simple brochure website or forum or the like.
I have worked out most of the specifics ‘on paper’ but I have know idea how to make that work and do what it needs to do to display the correct info where necessary.

I would imagine this ‘position’ would probably suit a college/university development/programming student or a retired/semi-retired developer/programmer but 'applications' are open to anyone interested.

Main requirements:

Honest, reliable, hard working
Technically sound expertise of web/development platforms etc.
Good knowledge of databases including creation, maintenance etc
Discretion – as a partner in a potentially lucrative business venture it is in both our best interests to protect the site, business, idea, etc for our own commercial benefit

If you’re interested in the venture and want to discuss it further please email me.
Please only apply if you are actually capable of executing the requirements of developing and implementing the entire site including all components from scratch to a published, live site.

P.S. As you can clearly see from this post I'm no developer, I barely even understand the simplest maths involved let alone how it translates to code, I'm more of a creative entrepreneurial type, hence I'm looking for a technically inclined developer to do the 'translating' if you will... So excuse the correctness/incorrectness of the language used above :D

lol @ the first reply :D

I know it's a long shot but if there happens to be a developer out there with the abilities required for the project who also happens to have the time and/or enthusiasm to give it a go it could be worthwhile.

I hear what you guys are saying... I figured this type of thing is proposed regularly!
Does anyone by any chance have any other suggestions? You guys are in the field and would know better than I do?

Just to be clear, I'm not looking for a long term commitment right from the off where you'd be legally obliged to complete the site for me... I'm just looking for an interested developer, perhaps with some time on their hands, who would be interested in discussing the idea. If we discuss it and the developer doesn't rate the idea or it's potential it's all good, no hard feelings.

Also the idea is not a new version of facebook or twitter (although admittedly Zuckerberg did in fact create a better site based on existing concepts/sites, myspace, friendster, etc) it's a new idea although admittedly I cant see it remaining new for too much longer, sooner or later someone is likely to create it, I'd rather take a shot than not.

Sorry, my last reply was a bit snarky.

Any developer (or actually I'll generalise that to any salaried employee) wants to enjoy their evenings/weekends and if they're working, they'll want to be paid unless they own the idea, in which case they have a vested personal interest in working on the product.

No worries.

I hear you and cant disagree at all... Any other ideas other than looking for a development partner?
Could you possibly give me a ballpark figure of what a similar development might cost?

contact development companies, get a quote and try get a loan.

The problem is, any decent coder also gets a decent salary and not a lot of free time. Getting someone to work on an idea for free in that little spare time that is normally family time is difficult.

I was referred to the first thread by a previous post, I'm not the same person.
(feel free to ask admin or one of the mods to check my IP address as compared to that of Vendetta or Reeced)

I get that developers dont generally appreciate this approach... Any other suggestions? Possibly ones that don't necessarily require shed loads of cash?

The problem is, if you have an idea that you are so sure will work and make lots of money, you need one of two things: (1) skills to make the product or (2) money to get people with skills to make the product.

All tech start-ups had one of those two things. You won't find anyone that didn't have the idea but has the skills to implement it and is happy to create the product for nothing with the off-chance of making money in the future. So you'll either need to get the skills or get the money. Considering you've already stated you don't have the skills, I'd suggest approaching financiers or venture capitalists with the idea before looking for developers.

Point taken! So either learn, quick! Or get finance... Much appreciated!
