Dear readers,

Please think *SERIOUSLY* if u even gonna look in Web intacts direction for wireless internet...

Firstly their installation prices are insane, their cost of hardware is no more than R700 inc. for top of the range receiver and they give some low-end cheapie, and they charge like R1700 (Where does the other R1000 come from ????)

NOW, my main concern is the insane amounts of downtime, AND THE FACT THAT when its down they DONT KNOW WHATS WRONG with their own network, i mean come on !!! If u wanna run an ISP get a clue..

In the couple of months ive been with them ive had in excess of 7 days downtime a month, sometimes up to 48 hours at a time, if its not totally down, your ports get blocked by them, and they swear blue murder that they havent...

I can go on and on, so i think i will... Now just know that u cant do a download bigger than a couple hudnred megs or they reduce ur speed from 256/512 down to 4kbs/sec or ur connection magically goes down...

FYI, this entire ISP is being run off 1 or more ADSL lines.... If this is true why they charge so much if their cost is a fraction what they charging us ???? AND HOW CAN U RUN AN ISP OFF ADSL LINES.... Get a clue, this aint ur redneck mammas business intranet, this is peoples business/money u messing with....

bah, im too angry now to even type so i gonna end this with.... I hope u all die misirable deaths Web Intact..

***EDIT***
- Just forgot to mention that they monitor every site, every key-stroke (passwords entered), everytime u fart, is THAT LEGAL ????? and they tell u what u can and cant download..
- Online gaming is a no-no
- P2P was working at full speed when i signed up, then got blocked 1 month into my being with them
- Their so-called 24HR support line only works from 10am-5pm (they say its mostly 8am - 8pm... BOLLOCKS!!!)
- My LEFT CHEEK that their supposed broadcast licenses are legitimate
- AND again my biggest reason for loving them so much is them not knowing What is wrong when im having a problem, GUYS get a clue, if u dont know whats wrong dont admit it...or if u do and dont want to give away ur incompetence, just make up some B/S story, its better than scratching ur hollow heads..

IS their anyway of finding out if these guys are even Legit ???

And to WEB INTACT go back to chicken/maize farming, i know it was difficult, but im sure u can do it !!!!

Yours kindly,
Ur biggest fan

THey blaming it on Telskum...W/E..incompetence proved once again...

Wisps?

You know the sad thing about these guys is that they are taking money away from legal resellers.

These resellers go through all kids of trouble to get licenses and provide technical support and make smallish profit amounts.

Along cums Koos, he quits his job as a data capturer at a insurance company.

Koos cashes in his own and his wife's pension. He does a system test in his garage, he phones telkom to install a DSL line.

Okay Koos rents space on a local high site, he learns a little about DHCP and Microtik and away he goes, signing up people in the on slaught. His first customers are so happy. The spread the word. Next thing there are 30 customers. Everybody spent R1703 for installation that Koos's half brother, twice removed, did all the installations.

Koos is thinking about early retirement, then the problems hit, everybody is on at the same time, the routerboard is flooded and he doesn't know what to do. Telkom DSL is up to crap and everybody is phoning him, and his english is not good enough to put up a proper defence.

Koos didn't know there was a problem because he spends all day in his tow truck on the side of the road.

Seriously and generally speaking.

Don't pick on one of them, they all generally suck, just in different ways!

1.) Customer relations (love to ignore emails)
2.) Poor technical knowledge (I know the jargon, so must the ISP)
3.) Lots of downtime.
4.) Poor speed during peak "all" times
5.) Contention ratio problems (they didn't do their DSL homework)
6.) Customer suffers a loss when they leave the service
7.) Technically illegal for both customer and provider
8.) Sustainability?

Okay so I must admit some are better than others. And people are going to say they don't have problems and bla bla bla. But before you post please try and do the following "tests":

The real test is as follows:
1. Take a file like 1 meg and try and email or upload it (time it)
2. Telkom's speed test compared to advertised speed (% of advertised)
3. Ping www.saix.net (time on SAIX)
4. Ping www.myadsl.co.za (time on IS)

Please post your results and then I'll stand to be corrected. Please note this does NOT apply to WBS, SENTECH or other legal ones.

Freedom from telkom is a great idea, but you can't put this principle to spite yourself.

wow loomy having a bad day? - me too my WISP has been having problems for a couple of days - finally sorted this morning.

I generally happy when it's up only down one day a month :/

"Firstly their installation prices are insane, their cost of hardware is no more than R700 inc. for top of the range receiver and they give some low-end cheapie, and they charge like R1700 (Where does the other R1000 come from ????)"

are you talking standard 2.4GHz wireless stuff? with antenna?
A standard AP + Cables + antenna comes to over R1200. + labour I think R1700.00 is fair.

I think daysleeper is on the right track. People think that it is easy to setup a WISP. They jump in feet first not knowing what they getting into.... on the other hand you get some really good WISPs

I hate to say it and I wish it was different but ADSL is the best bet and one should only use a WISP if ADSL is not available in your area. I think WISP is great for community type effort for home users where the WISP will put up an FTP server for the users to share at higher speeds then internet. The problem with that is that home users don't pay lots of money businesses do, so they go after the businesses. WISP is a bad idea for business.
