Web Intact (Or intactless service)

The last I checked it was...

Default Gateway: 10.0.96.68
DNS: 10.0.96.10

172.16.0.1 is the main DNS these days although they suggest you rather automatically acquire the DNS.

Gateway-wise doesn't it depend on the tower you connect to? Mine is 10.0.96.72. WAN IP is reported to be 10.0.96.199 but if you check with whatismyip for example, you get something completely different - which buggers torrents a bit.

It's been a while since I last messed with my settings :p. I'll change my router to auto acquire when I get a chance, thx.
I think you might be right about the gateway . My tower is Northcliffe.
I also haven't been able to get torrents to work, just P2P and NS.

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/Telecoms/3608.html Neotel offers faster speed, bigger cap, no initial cost and cheaper out of bundle data rates. I am really looking forward to the Neotel braodband release!!

There are however a few issues I have with their offer...
  1. You have to sign a 24 month contract
  2. You can't use the phone and the internet at the same time apparently.
  3. You can't plug the phone into your router. You have to plug it into one PC and enable ICS.
  4. It would be nice to get some off-network bundled minutes as well. I mean how long will it take before all the people you phone are (hopefully) going to be on Neotel for the 1,000 minutes on-network bundle to be useful?
  5. A higher cap ~30Gb would be nicer. I'll probably be content with at least 20Gb

Apart from that, I'm sold :D

Hey, at least we have got some competition here and the one offer best service/value wins our money. I am not expecting too much the first time, but at least it's much better than what GWI is offering us ATM.

I agree and I would sign up now if they weren't making me sign a 24 month contract , and of course when they cover my area - no coverage yet :(.
The rest of the issues I can get around or live with - hopefully some of them will be sorted out over time

Signals, signals. I am sure service will be better from both Neotel and GWI overtime because more fibres will be commissioned in 1-2 years time. So locking into a 24 months contract may be a little unwise at the moment. Maybe I will wait a while and see how everything is going (coverage, cap, signal quality.etc).

I have had a slow connectin for the past few days and have phoned the GWI daily. Every time I get told there's nothing wrong, I should reset my router etc.

If I'm capped they sure don't have the guts to tell me so in my face.

How can they cap me if I cannot monitor my bandwith somewhere?

How do you people think mr gwi???

And seems I am not the only one to experience this BS you call support.

It's tricky. The main problem for torrents and wireless is you don't have a fixed IP. I've got best results with Vidalia/Tor proxy-type installation (Google to get it and learning curve involved) and uTorrent. Sometimes it works well and sometimes not at all, but it's the reason I'm capped very month. Perhaps PM if you want some help?

Internet not working most of the day (IS backbone, capped). Not a service I would pay 850 pm that you can't check how much you used and not possible to get more data bundle at all.

Keep up the good work GWI!!

It started sucking last night (Friday), but a bit better than last weekend when the service was non-existent for all but a few hours - starting lunchtime Friday.

What tower do you connect to BTW? I'm on Northcliff2.

Same tower.....Internet only started to work after supper tonight.

Well, on a sample of two, the problem's the service or the tower. Tech "support" told me last week that the problem was on my side and I needed to get tech support in. For a while I was convinced I had a dodgy router, now I know not.

This is a ping log from tonight, last weekend was worse. Mr GWI - any comments?

I am in Pretoria and here we have good service untill around 5pm,then service is very slow or none at all.

This continues up to 7 in the morning after that we get speed in excess of 400kbps!

Calling the support guys does not help much, as you get the same BS every time.-reset router drill.

I have e-mailed the support people three times just to get NO reply at all.

I have saved all my ping reports and e-mails etc and intend taking this to the press.

GWI simply takes our money every month and they treat us like mushrooms.(Keep us in the dark and feed us s...t)

I have no choice but to subscribe to their service, but would not recommend their product to anyone.

Gee this sounds just like Sentech - when they were in the process of stuffing up what should have been a great business.

My question is why????

Why is GWI pissing off their clients in this way????

They must realise that if competition can provide coverage in their area their existing clients will LEAVE and sign up with them?

Why is it that GWI do not inform their clients of intended maintenance or upgrades of towers or routing protocols?

How hard is it to send a bulk mail and just inform the people that are lining their pockets?

This sounds a lot like telkom.....

yeah...if the local agents + upstream team haven't got the drive for quality delivery + communication (imho biggest problem today in general) then competition is going to take the customers away...
