Interesting to find an ISP still retarded and backward enough to play at being everyone's mother and telling customers what they can and can't do with an internet connection they're being paid to supply.

They should supply the line, and shut the **** up about anything else.

It's not their place to make comments about anything to do with the content that their users might enjoy. And to make comments about legality or illegality, is to overstep their boundaries.

If the relevent law enforcement authorities come to them with an official query backed up by supporting court-ordered warrants, then perhaps they're entitled to comment on whatever data their users are obtaining - until then, they should shut up, and resist their fascist meddling immature urges to be proxy parents or proxy policemen.

web-unintact??

Hi,
I saw this thread and could not help but say something.

I am a Webintact customer. The installation really went quick. However, they are having constant technical problems. I went through a couple of weeks when the service was down every sunday and every morning till about 9.

Their website claim that they will contact you before you can contact them. This is not true. It has reached a point where they are simply ignoring my e-mails. I have asked for terms and conditions on day 1 - in May 2005 and I am still waiting for it.

The reason for the lack of P2P were given to me as being a security risk. Not a word about bandwidth which I believe to be the real reason..especially after a comment made in this thread.

The only reason I am still with them is because there is no other wireless supplier in the Rustenburg area at the moment that I am aware of...

end of rant

Adding to this...

I have an MS Exchange server on my network so I would have liked to use it to send all emails directly to the intended destination, but no...

...get this ...

they route all outgoing SMTP through their own SMTP server. It does not matter what IP address you are connecting to. If you try to connect using port 25, you connect to their SMTP server. Now tell me where the logic is in that.

Now I can not use my servers tracking feature to determine if a mail reached the intended server or not. I have to rely on their server to deliver the e-mail correctly.

Hi all,

haven't been here for a while, so thought I'd show my face so you can see we're not hiding from the complaints.

We do realise there have been major issues in terms of reliability and consistancy of service, and already are doing things about it.

So far, we have had disastorous trials with changing our primary bandwidth service and mail hosting from SAIX to IS. IS has been up and down like a whore's drawers, and we've been taking a lot of flak from our clients as a result of this. We want to move away from SAIX, but at this stage it is most unfortunate that they have been the best performers so far. We will perservere...

As far as the network goes, we are almost complete with a hardware upgrade of the JHB system, and should be switching over within the next week. So far tests are showing huge improvements in network stability and uptime, as well as an approximately 4 x increase in data throughput on the network. Rustenburg, which has been a constant source of embarressment to us, is next on the upgrade plan for early November, closely followed by Pretoria and Vereeniging. Harrismith has begun their upgrade.

We are working 12 hour days at this satge to get things up to standard, and are doing all we can to live up to our cliams.

Once the switchover has been done, we will allow P2P at a reduced speed.

Issues with ICASA and Telkom continue to be a potential pitfall, but we are optimistic that our talks with all concerned will turn out positively...

cheers for now.

Im confused, not so long ago you were flashing your icasa certificate in front of all of us, showing your legit and wont be shutdown?

That's right - you asked, we showed...

But Telkom still kicks up a big fuss, and puts pressure on ICASA to inspect sites & shut down where they can. We don't break any rules, and don't tempt fate but that does not seem to be enough.

The convergence bill is still a long way off, and until then Telkom will most likely continue to dig away at the foundations of potential opposition...

B)

ICASA gave you a certificate of legitimacy, but Telkom can force them to shut you down? Sorry this sounds like crap.

If its not, its exactly the proof everyone should have, ICASA means nothing, useless and pointless.

I have a drivers license? Does that mean I can run a WISP?
Thats essentially what Web Intact have shown us.

A VANS License does not mean you can run a Wireless ISP.
End of story.

So does WebIntact offer internet services via 2.4 spectrum???
Legal???

WebIntact seems to think that having a VANS license makes doing this legal.
Everyone else with half a clue doesn't..
I actually think they KNOW that it isn't Legal, but they dont want to admit it or they might lose their customers.

That being the case, ICASA (and big bad brother telkom) still allows it? No action taken?
Aint that opening a door for other people to do the same all over the show and basically flooding 2.4 ? (As i presume thats the fx they're using)
