Web Intact (Or intactless service)

I can believe that it will happen if the AP is in the same house(fixed a few myself), but not really a neighbour or someone down the road...

We are neighbours in a duplex complex - share a common wall :D

Like flat 44/45 Capish?

At one stage I used to hook into his wireless Lan with my Laptop. Then I decided to buy my own system.

PS:

IS Speed test run now:

IS ADSL Local Speed Test to Internet Solutions Rosebank Data Centre
Please wait testing speed now...
Start Time: 22:11:39
End time: 22:11:43
Download Size: 409600 bytes
Time Delta: 3.7507710456848 seconds
Download Speed: 107 KBytes/s
Line Speed: 856 kbits/s

I thought the line was only 512?

PSS:

Polarization is Horizontal, must be correct - signal is much weaker when Yagi is vertical.

Respone, thruput, everything is REALLY GOOD tonight. Working so well I don't want to go to bed ;)

@WebIntact: Let me know what you guys did, PM if needs be!

What I meant was his AP interfering with your bridge... (the chance that they are on the same channel and the strength of his AP)

Those speed tests are not all that accurate, do all 3 IS,Telkom and Iburst test to be sure, sometimes I have a 8mb connection according to Telkom.

Webintact where does your Bandwidth come from??? (I Heard it was Verizone, just wondering)

Cheers
Enjoy the speed...

I did try the lot, seemed to average out at about 400 Kbits/second local, can't remember the overseas sites but I think around 150 Kbits/second.

If it stays like this I will be a happy camper, erm surfer ...

And my kid (who can complain ) will be happy ...

What did you guys change, WebIntact?

its not my ap... my AP is running on channel 1, thats 9 channels away from 10.

maybe 1 overlaps to 2, maybe 10 overlaps to 9 and 11, i still have a 7 channel space in there.

Apparently the guys in PMB didn't change a thing - which makes me think it def. was some local interference.

Keep an eye on it, and post here if you see a change again - (ie if bboy changes channels ;) )

Stuart said the first time he visited you, he found an AP on ch 9 or 11 - he couldn't remember which, but is sure it was a neighbouring channel.

IS & Verizon...

Chalk & Cheese...

seems its true, so far the GWI guys have had no success on getting my linksys wrt54g v2.2 to work on their network. :( unfortunate as buying another unit at the moment is just too much money for me

Reply to my PM bboy. I'm trying to help you out here...

i see now... well i'll have to do that at home

Things do break now and then - please call support if you have any problems. Only I check here regularly, and I am not on support.

Thanks

Called this morning ...

IDEA: Maybe you should get your support guys to monitor this thread. Vodacom have a rep on the 3G Thread (and he is a high level guy as well!) , and believe me it helps :)

Reply from local support @09:30: "Apparently the lines are losing the carrier tone ,Telkom are working on it now"

@bboy

If you are not connected but still paying, then that is by your choice.

When you experience prolonged connectivity problems, you should notify our accounts dept with the details of your period of inactivity and ask for a pro-rata rate reduction. This will be varified with the local agents and a credit passed on your account.

Please also keep in mind that although we do not support personal equipment, or equipment that was not purchased from GWI, we are still doing everything we can to help you.

I think we deserve some slack for that, don't you?

A loan unit would normally be procured as a priority for customers who have purchased equipment from us which has failed.

Seeing as you did not purchase your linksys from us, you should be seeking a loan unit from the vendor who supplied you - not so?

Okie dokie, can you give me the email address for this department, or person, or whoever i should contact!

My router has been with stuart since the 4th, he's dropping it off today, no luck they don't work with the new GWI network

You can get the WRT54GL to work.
With a little bit of patience ;)

Reason I ask is that I will be starting a new Job in JHB in January

I have probably been spoilt with an ADSL Line that has always worked well and good Service from Axxess

I will run HSDPA on Laptop for VPN to Office.

I will have to go through the whole Internet hookup thing again for home connectivity. Options are limited, but I definately plan to stay away from ADSL (Gauteng seems dicey) SENTECH and IBURST.

My options are basicaly Wireless (Webintact), POE (GTS) or wait for Neotel.
I have followed this thread and WebIntact seem to have stuck with the problem which gives me some confidence -

Once I have settled I will log my details on NodeDB as I plan to connect to either JAWUG or the Pretoria WUG (Depends were I buy a Home).

Any Other Ideas

Not sure who you mean?

They do, if flashed with the right firmware (and I'm still not sure which version it is - sorry - been trying to get the one I tested back, to no avail thus far...)

Thanks - we do try...

There are two companies, webintact pty or an ltd. they were a parent and subsidairy, something of the sort, they got into a dispute and split, one company had the vans license in their name and continued to operate.

their service is very poor and unreliable, often down in the mornings for anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours. i often had to use gprs on my cellphone for important emails.

we had an uncapped account but downloading from youtube or any intensive site, say with 100 images at 500kbyte one, was "prohibited" during the day, because it affected other customers' speeds. p2p was also only allowed at night. decent shaping and qos should be easy to implement, they use redhat servers, but the admin is a CA, not an IT expert as far as i know and i dont believe he has the proficientcy needed to admin an ISP.

when we used over 30G they shaped us to less than dialup modem speeds, some sites didnt even open. service was terrible. they would disconnect us from the wan if we accidently left p2p running in the day, without notification, which will result in us calling them for several time for upto 3 days, THREE DAYS, before our service was reconnected.

my advice is, if it sounds too good to be true, it is. we use adsl now, i hate the 3G cap but its it is too frustrating to fight with the ISP. also annoying to find internet off and down whenever i need it. it is just not worth the energy and frustration.

just a quick note, there was about 50 poeple on the wan, which i saw with nmap and various linux tooks, after 2 months there was only around 15 left. it tells me i'm not the only unsatisfied customer.

now i remember, global webintact is the compeditor to normal just webintact, webintact normal is the one i was with, and i'm very unhappy with their service. global is the parent company, which may be very differant from the subsidairy.
