I just received this from Webafrica

By now, Serve-Hosting would have brought you up to speed about the move to us. We're really excited to have you on board, and our team will make sure you get the same stellar service you've become accustomed to. If you’d like to know a little bit more about the Largest Independent ISP in South Africa, simply click here.

Let's start by giving you an overview of what you can expect when moving over to us.

Webafrica Account and Customer Zone Access

If you are new to Webafrica, we will be importing your existing Serve-Hosting services into your newly created Webafrica account and sending you the login details via email on Monday, 14 March 2016.

For those who are already our customers, we'll be importing your existing Serve-Hosting services into your active Webafrica account. You'll be able to access and manage these services within the Webafrica Customer Zone as you usually do.

Please note, once you receive these details above, you will no longer be able to access your Serve-Hosting Member's Area and will need to order new and manage existing services via the Webafrica Customer Zone.

Migration of All Hosting Services from Serve-Hosting

We'll begin the migration of all hosting services from Serve-Hosting to our state-of-the-art data centre in Cape Town from Thursday, 31 March to Friday, 15 April 2016. This will be a phased migration roll-out (done in batches), so you'll receive another communication from us closer to your actual migration event, explaining what to expect during the move.

The migration will only be done after hours, so you don't have to worry about any downtime and our skilled engineers will be available to assist with any queries you may have. So rest assured that you're in good hands.

Billing with Webafrica - What's Changing?

We always like to keep things as they were but due to your current billing dates with Serve-Hosting being slightly different to ours, there will be some minor changes. Here's what's to expect with us:

Invoice Date: your will receive your invoice on the 25th of every month.
Payment Due Date: payment for your invoice is due by the 7th of the following month.

Your current payment method (credit card / EFT) with Serve-Hosting will remain the same with us. We recommend that you update your payment method to either credit card or debit order to alleviate the hassle of having to make manual payments every month.

Your Existing Services

You'll be happy to know that the price you're paying for your hosting services will not change and in all cases you'll receive additional resources. This will allow you to do even more without spending an extra cent. Now isn't that sweet?

Support

If you have any support questions, you can contact Serve-Hosting as you would normally do on [email protected] until Sunday,13 March 2016. Our friendly and helpful support team will be taking over all your support queries from Monday, 14 March 2016.

Please take a look at our FAQs for more information.

Once again, welcome to Webafrica. We look forward to being your ‘Everything Web’ partner for many years to come.

Take Care!

Dear Valued Serve-Hosting Customer

We have some exciting news to share with you!

Serve-Hosting’s vision was always to provide our customers with the best personalised hosting experience, and to make that vision a reality moving forward, we are joining forces with a hosting company with a vision very close to our own – Webafrica.

Webafrica is the largest independent internet service provider in South Africa and the third largest hosting company in the country. With over 18 years of service in the hosting industry, we know you will benefit from their expertise and experience.

This was not a decision we made lightly: Webafrica’s stellar track record speaks for itself and the fact that they can migrate your services to their platform with virtually no disruptions cemented the relationship. All your services will continue to work with almost no visible changes – other than that you will be hosted in a state-of-the-art data centre in Cape Town and backed by a company we trust completely and endorse unreservedly.

Webafrica will be communicating with you via email in the next few days to explain what will happen during the move across to their systems, so please keep an eye on your inbox in the upcoming days to ensure you don’t miss out on crucial information. In the meantime, if you have any questions please contact us on 012 741 4400 or [email protected] and we will be happy to explain in more detail.

Webafrica looks forward to having you as part of their family!

Sincerely,
Serve-Hosting

This is semi concerning ...

I am contemplating moving all my hosting to another provider temporarily and then gracefully moving things back to WA once the move is successful.

I wonder what will happen with the free DNS hosting?

Domaimcheap users went through similar. Wa offers a dns only free account but you must ask for the domain to be moved to that account type

I enquired and DNS hosting will automatically move to a Webafrica parked account which is the same thing (access to DNS manager via cPanel). I think the issue with Domaincheap was that they had free hosting (with resources, not DNS only). With Serve, it is purely DNS hosting.

Web Africa is just going crazy with buying other hosts. One host have told me that they won't sell but of the rest it looks like anyone is fair game.

Most if not all businesses are for sale if the price is right I suppose.

If they keep doing this, monopoly/competition commission can get involved?

I think so... Although I'm sure there are a few hosts that aren't interested in doing business of any kind with WA.
I'm in the process of migrating one of my clients' sites to Web Crew and actually asked one of the guys there whether they'd consider something like that (merging or selling their hosting 'division' to WA). Answer was clear enough - "Hell no, not to Web Africa anyway."
