Hi

I will be moving house and decided to cancel my fibre with Webafrica. I will be moving on the 8th and will need an active fibre connection till then at my current house.
Should I give notice on 1st or 7th February?
Any idea if they charge pro-rata?

Being a client since 2017, so pretty p*ssded off with the R999 cancellation fee that I never signed for.

Thanks

Usually, calendar months notice, so you give notice now, and the service will run until the end of Feb.

The cancellation fee should be payed by the costumer nicely in 36 months enforced by law then.

Someone probably tried that and thus the clause :

.*: Please note that the billing team will reach out to you regarding the router collection. Please note the router must be returned no later than the 20th of March 2025 to prevent the R999.00 fee that will be charged.

Please take note of the following regarding the cancellation of your service:
Your Free-to-use Router
When you signed up for your service you were given a free-to-use router. Please note that within 20 days after your service is cancelled you will be required to return the router. If you do not, you will be billed R999.00 for the router.

ROUTER COLLECTION SERVICE
We can have your router collected from you FREE OF CHARGE. On the day your service is cancelled and collection of your Cancellation Processing Fee is successful, we will send you communication to arrange collection at your chosen address.

CANCELLATION PROCESSING FEE
Please note that should you decide to cancel your service with us, you will be liable for a R999 cancellation processing fee.

I, ***, agree that I have chosen to cancel my service on 2025-01-27, and that I agree to return my router within 20 days of my cancellation, or if failing to do so will pay the R999. I also agree to pay the cancellation processing fee of R999. I also accept that my line will not be released (in the case of moving to another ISP), until my Webafrica bill is fully paid up.

According to that there will be no cancellation fee of R999 is you return the router.

One a side note, if you didn’t sign up or agree to a cancellation processing fee when you initially signed up with them I would not pay said fee.

anyone cancelled Webafrica before?

I see on their website cancellation page they don't mention the R999 penalty anymore? They do mention the router fee of R999 unless you send it back to them. Problem is they say it must be in its original packaging! I mean who keeps a router box for 5 years etc? Is it even worth sending it back to them if you don't have the box? 🤷‍♂️

When you whatsapp them to cancel they will bring up the R999 cancellation fee, not sure about the router box situation I still have mine luckily

Agree, this returning things in the original packaging is nonsense.

R999 cancelation is a scam. call it what it is.
it's more like a ransom ... everyone knows it is a crime and disgusting that it is even being demanded

BUT: if you happen to be the one who got kidnapped you would gladly pay it to GTFO, the sense of freedom that washed over me as I escaped from the downward spiral that is WebAfrica was priceless!

extortion.

so in essence it's a R2,000 fee for cancelling... they say the router must be returned in its original box like new etc. I mean after 8 years wtf who keeps the box.

effing scum, you can join them on the 20th of the month and they charge you a full month, sucks to be you they say!

the exact reason this country is down the tubes, companies like this.
