Ok Guys, what am I missing:

On the WA page with the basic data bundles: http://www.webafrica.co.za/adsl/standard/
it says topups are R15/gig, but the base bundle pricing is a lot more (for example 4 gig package costs R199 = R59/gig).

So whats to stop me from getting a 1 gig account at R59, and set up auto topup with a limit of 20 gig per month? Which would effectively end up at 19gig*R15 + 1gig*R59 = R344 for 20 gig = R17 per gig.

That R15/gig is known as "Recharge" (not regular "Prepaid") which differs in that you have to buy a minimum of 3gigs Recharge (R45) and it expires at the end of the month.

Asked the same question before but didn't really get a clear answer.

And this way you get 4 concurrent connections :)

If I need to buy in 1 gig or 3 gig denominations, it still ends up as R15/gig. And all other providers 'topup' expires at the end of the month anyway. This still doesn't seem like a 'catch' to me, and I'm wondering why anyone would then buy a base bundle of more than 1 gig.

Base 4 gig = R199
Base 1 gig + 3 gig Recharge = 59 + 45 = R104

I know they only recently changed the topup price, but why haven't they reworked the base price. One would think they would charge less for someone buying more data at once, in essence the business model would like to have the above two numbers reversed, to encourage people to buy a bigger base package.

Well they did change the base price with new packages which for some reason is now "sold out" .

http://www.webafrica.co.za/adsl/Titan_DSL_Special/

Now if you look at those packages, the R15 p/gb makes perfect sense , since it's more expensive than the base package.

I initially figured the "recharge" option would only be available on certain packages where the base price justifies it. So not sure what WA is thinking with allowing a R59 for 1GB package to have R15 p/gb topups. Maybe they have stats we don't know about, like the bulk of their customers being on that 1GB package ANYWAY and giving them the "recharge" option they will be enticed to spend MORE than they normally would have spent....

Kinda like alot of people who's just gaming on the 1GB package, and having uncapped from another ISP for downloading. So now people might consider using he 1GB package for downloading too. Obviously people on larger R59 p/gb accounts is not getting the best value, but maybe they are the minority...?

Yeah, saw that last week, wanted to buy Sunday evening, didnt, and they were sold out on monday. Doh!

The Titan Completes still seem to be available. Note that transferring your ADSL line to/from an ISP can take up to two weeks though so be prepared for the wait.

I Wonder if WA is going to change the standard packages or remove the recharge option because I'm tempted to move our company back to them. Just ain't going to do it if they remove the recharge option.

I guess I will wait and see unless somebody from WA can shed some light on this

I'm guessing its intended to be a special & so they only want a small number of people on those packages note everyone & their dog. That probably also means they are making very little profit on it.

At the moment doing ISP-hopping for the best bundle packages is still preference, so I'll let old Hellkom keep billing me for the line.

Looks like they simply launched that service to make it into the news. Once that was done they made it "sold out".

Absolutely nothing.

I'd recommend taking a look at our DSL Complete Packages first however (http://www.webafrica.co.za/adsl/complete/)
They have an even cheaper rate per GB, than the Data only accounts, and include the ADSL line.

To change which?

I think there's still a little confusion about the "long term" of the Recharge option. The Titan special and Recharge option was released close together and now the Titan Data is "sold out" . So i think people are thinking that the recharge is also "temporary" or "limited" and can be removed or sold-out at any moment also. Or in short : Is the recharge option "permanent" on the packages it's currently available on, for at least the foreseeable future?

To change the Standard packages or more specifically remove the recharge option or the concurrent connections on the standard packages?
We have no plans to change those features no.

All our future plans revolve around adding features

Aaargh. Just after ordering my 1 gig WA package last night, it seems the data only Titan packages are not showing 'sold out' anymore.

But its still a good aaargh WA ;)
