Webafrica - Double natting

Can someone from Webafrica please contact me regarding this issue, it's very annoying....

How do you know you're being double natted?
Port forwarding no longer works and the IP address reported by my router does not match my public ip.

I can also see all the others that share my public ip by performing a simple ip scan on my router's external dhcp assigned PPOE IP range.... Some of them also have ports that are open...

That doesn't sound very good at all :-/

What is your wan IP address? 100.

It's a CGN.

Due to IPv4 exhaustion. Are you on Vumatel?
SADV...

Ah I was right, it's a large scale NAT, which makes it impossible to host services. How do I resolve this as as far as I am aware WebAfrica does not block ports and this will do just that .....

Guess I will just have to make a stink......

That doesn't look like a real public IP.

Hmmmm WebAfrica, jaaa neh

Unfortunately it's not entirely their fault.

IPv4 exhaustion is real. With the boom of Vuma reach it has put great strain on the available IP resources.

Afrihost has also implemented a CGN. We now allocate you an internal IP if you connect a second MAC to the CPE or ONT.

You would need to call your ISP to see if they are able to allocate you a public IP address.

IPv6 was invented years ago, no reason to not switch to it.
WebAfrica don't allocate static IP's to residential areas - even if you willing to pay for it.

Hang on. I thought only one port on the ONT can be active at any given time?

Afrihost on Vuma trenched.

Yes it is what I was saying when troubleshooting we usually eliminate the router being faulty by plugging that router out and plugging the ethernet directly into the CPE/ONT. With Vuma Trenched it's mac locked. SO the pc won't have access to the internet but still needs an IP because it can access the shop.vumatel.co.za website. We allocate an internal IP when this happens to prevent an IP from just staying there unused.

Yep CGNAT is real and becoming more prevalent. More so on mobile operators. I'm on Rain 5G and its CGNatd. No option for public ip or to move to another address pool.

Best to contact web africa and request to be moved to other address pool if they dont offer static IP. In other countries it is used to push to business packages as the argument is home lines should not be for hosting servers etc.

From what I am reading up onnits a pain to circumvent but use cases are possible.

Hi guys

I use a dynamic DNS to allow me to access my CCTV system remotely. In the last few weeks, something seems to have changed on the webafrica network, because I can no longer access the required port (8xxx). A simple port scan on my external IP address (based on my dyndns) shows the port is closed, and webafrica insists they don't close any ports

Their tech support is also impossible to get a hold of, and when I do they give me silly suggestions like "restart your router" then they close the ticket

How do I resolve this? It is super urgent

Thanks
