Webafrica down?!

Listen, we're all very happy that you are happy but some of us are not getting what we pay for and so we have a right to complain. Too many people in this country accept poor levels of service and that is why this country is in the sh## that it's in. WA have had numerous issues over the last while, I think people have been pretty patient tbh.

Yes, I understand your point, but it’s like trying to "poep teen donderweer" against these big corporate boys. I'm also a person who expects to get what he pays for.

It’s just the way people go about the approach that sucks. Put pen to paper, or in this case fingers to the keyboard, type the guys an email and launch a formal complaint with them if that’s going to make you feel better... If not you can leave that’s the beauty of it. The markets today are so competitive that if you’re not happy the one day with the one ISP the following day you sign up with another.

As per the outage this morning, some of our network ranges were not being announced to the upstream provider. This affected some of our core services which included DNS. This in turn resulted in many web servers being inaccessible. A more thorough analysis revealed that only Windows Servers were affected and Linux Shared Servers were not. This in no way affected any of our WA ADSL Users.

These issues are presently being addressed and more communication in this regard will be forthcoming.

To address the WAADSL concerns, we have been and will continue to run significant network tweaks over the next week to assist the issue, including expediting planned capacity upgrades - there is however no ETA on this as of yet.
We urge customers who are still experiencing poor browsing and latency issue to please send an email to [email protected]

Outage between 6:36am to 7:53am

Normal people still sleep / get to work during that time. It's not even standard office hours.. Really don't see the big issue here.

on a un(related) note, I'm having major latency issues on WebAfrica from Cape Town to Int right now.

This is to one of my servers, although all international sites are affected.

Hi zamrg

I suggest you host in NYC if possible, as local hosting has always been unreliable - if you obtain the stats from hetzner, mweb, is, webafrica, etc. it is scary, however they still advertise as 99% uptime. ThePlanet.com (co location NYC/LDN) is your best bet, I use www.host4africa.com (local intermediary) - 24 sites with not one minute downtime since 2004.

I can't afford the locals' big talk and no delivery.

If not, the smaller local guys are far more reliable and actually deliver support, just ensure they are not reselling.

Hope the info helps.

Regards

M

Let me assure you that we lost about 1500 lines of data at a turnover of R15 per line (value R 22 500). Note "potential" because it is still a demo system, hoping to land a big customer. Our demo is a bit stuffed now . . . .

Geez you people can bitch and moan.

Any ISP is going to have some kind of problems at times. Its computers people, theres bound to be problems.

I"m a platinum reseller of WA, you do not see me jumping up and down, having a little hissy fit.

Deal with it people.

+1

We had no MS Sql handling for 2 hours this morning (01:10 - 03:04). Was this planned maintenance?

...and when I complain about their DNS Servers, I am told there is nothing wrong - Therefore I use: Domain Name Servers - 196.43.34.190 / 62.6.40.162

Hi Gerald_D

I have followed up with our engineers to see if there was any down time on our MS SQL server as you specified.

I sent you a PM requesting further information in order to investigate on our side.

I sent you a PM requesting further information in order to investigate on our side.

Your PM was blank (no content)...I deleted that before I saw your post above.

By the way, there was another hiccup 11:14 to 11:34 this morning.

Don't worry too much about it, we are moving to another server on the weekend.

Not sure what happened there, I just re-sent the PM again. The engineers wanted to investigate the server you are on in order to see why the hiccup happened.

I still want the engineers to investigate why the server had the hiccup, please would you send me a PM with the information pertaining to your account.
