Due to a problem with the DSLAM at the exchange, Telkom moved my line to a different port on the DSLAM yesterday. I had the DSLSecure feature enbaled on my old port. After the move I called WebAfrica to turn of the DSLSecure feature so that I could browse using the new port.

My problem is that now I cannot get the DSLSecure feature enabled on my new port. When I try to enable it I get the following message:

"There was an error when attempting to update your account information, please try again and if this problem persists please contact technical support."

I called WebAfrica again and spoke to Elridge van Zyl who promised me that the problem will be sorted out today. However when I tried to enable DSLSecure on my line again tonight I still get the message. I phoned WebAfrica again but the person who answered was unable to help me.

Which other ISPs also offer DSLSecure? I feel it is time to go change to another ISP.

Well maybee it's not a webafrica thing...its probrably telkom since the problem only arose once telkom moved your port

Even if its not, seems a bit extreme to change ISPs over a relatively minor problem like that.

I don't think its extreme considering that DSLSecure prevents anyone else from using your account. I changed the password on my router and I did what I can on my side to prevent someone from stealing my account, but without DSLSecure I don't have the additional protection that it provides. If my account gets hijacked Webafrica is not going to refund me the bandwidth I lost.

They promised to sort out the problem today and they did not. Now its probably only going to get attention next week (if any). I can't take that chance. As soon as whats left of my cap is used up, I'll be signing up elsewhere

It only takes a few minutes for them to add your new Port id to the system, the last time Telscum connected me to a new port due to a faulty card, I just called Cybersmart and the guy added the new port while I was on the phone.

Call WebAfrica and ask them to do it now. Btw Axxess, Cybersmart (and probably others) are also able to lock your account to a port.

I did call them but because of some problem with their system they are unable to enable DSLSecure on my new port ID. This is the problem they said would be sorted today and it is not.

Fair enough, its your money and your choice. :)

You sound like a broken record. So it wasn't sorted out today. Be patient and wait until tomorrow.

Hi mystic,

Can you PM me your line NAS IP and Port as well as your username (or alternatively just give me your client code) and I can assign the new line to your account. If you would like, let me know which line I can remove as well. We are currently experiencing an issue when setting DSL-Secure via the frontend, but I can easily set it up on the backend for you.
