To be honest, I really don't notice the difference (if any) between shaped and semi shaped ... I have semi shaped from Axxess and to me, personally, there is no difference .. on the contrary ... there is a lot of static when using Skype on semi shaped, unlike when I use shaped from WebAfrica ... this has to be the only country in the world that uses terms like shaped and semi shaped when referring to ADSL ... same chit, different smell ...

What line speed are you running? I've found there to be a dramatic difference in international speeds, running on a 4Mbps line. Never had a problem with Skype either.

For sure! But they should undercut Axxess' price of R89/GB...

Um, Nexus has Prepaid IS Fibre Semi-Shaped account at R72/GB and you can top-up with less than that if you want. Its their Custom DSL offer, why pay R89/GB For those that dont want prepaid there is the normal cap starting with 1GB (+ 1GB local) for R65/mo but I prefer being able to top-up.

I've been with Nexus for about 2 years now i think (mental note: request loyalty discount ) and have sampled their SAIX stuff and their IS stuff and recently (the past 3 months or so) have been using Custom DSL. I've never had a day of trouble with any of my accounts. The only time I ever had a minor problem was when my brother thought he was a rocket scientist and played with my router settings to a point where he completely buggered it all up and I had to reset it, so I called nexus... and here is where I say they stands out (at least from my experience with my previous ISP)...

I got through to someone who actually knew what he was doing (shock) and was very patient and friendly with me (since i'm not a genius with routers and it was a monday morning this was very refreshing), it wasnt 5min and I was up and running again. For me this is what its all about - good price, quality service and friendly (and knowledgeable) support, I get that from my this account so to move to another ISP again would be hard, well, unless they can give me uncapped at R100 p/m hehe (dreams).

I have been a loyal WebAfrica client for some time now, and have steered several friends their way. However, after having some major speed issues, on fz1's recommendation I purchased 1Gb of semi-shaped fibre from Nexus in order to run some tests.

Using my WebAfrica connection I ran an international speed test against a server in California. Maximum download speed was < 100kbps. My upload speed was over 300kbps, i.e. 3x my download speed.

NB: I have been getting similar low speed test results i.e. < 300kbps from WebAfrica for around a month now. I have complained to WebAfrica on three occasions, but with no success.

I then repeated the test using the Nexus connection. Maximum download speed achieved was around 1650kbps, with upload similar to WebAfrica.

The initial tests were run around 16h45 using speedtest.net, with the Nexus test duplicated around 22h00, then a couple of days later. Results appear to be consistent. BTW, my line is currently restricted to 2Mb.

I too have been forced to use another ISP for the semi-shaped fibre accounts.

Your biggest Internet spenders are either for business or for entertainment. The target market of the IS semi-shaped product is quite clearly the entertainment side...the person who actually works all day and would like to come home from work and play at night or on weekends at optimal speed/latency. By not allowing them this you are basically killing off that entire segment :/ simply because when they find out that they can get better for cheaper they are going to move...thats what entertainment is all about.

WA this semi-fibre account suits the home entertainment user perfectly and is the best we have at the moment considering our state of affairs with broadband in SA. In my opinion best you start offering it quick!!
