I have a Webafrica local DSL account. The GW IP on my router says x.x.x.1 but if I access my servers at work through it the log files indicate an ip address of x.x.226.176.

Are they using some kind of transparent proxy to control the local only browsing?

This brings me to question number two, which IP do I give to my buddies if I want to host a game on my side and will that work?

It will be a good idea to use Hamachi for simplicities sake.

x.x.226.176 is the IP address that you have been assigned. So naturally this is the source address that is showing up in the logs. Use this for your buddies.
