WebAfrica local-only problem (possibly n00b)

Hi guys,

I have a local only account with Webafrica.

My problem is that when I connect using the account, I can't browse any websites (local or not).

My DNS settings are:
Primary: 196.4.50.190
Sec. : 196.4.50.193

I have a feeling that my DNS is incorrect.

What are the correct dns settings for local only Webafrica accounts (SAIX)?

You don't need any DNS settings! :confused:

Just leave them blank (auto-assigned)
 
I have exactly that same problem, unable to use local saix bandwith, I contacted Webafrica and here is their response

Sirs,

Just want to find out if there is something wrong today with the local saix, cause i am unable to use the account i brought, it connects but wont connect to local site. (www.myadsl.co.za) tested it on 3 Computers. It just sends data but dont receive any data

Hi Ferdi

There is currently an outage on the saix network (an underwater cable broke) all adsl users is affected by this outage.
The symptoms of the outage is no connectivity or intermittent connectivity

But wouldn't that affect the international accounts aswell? My telkom account has been working without flaw the whole day

Hi

International accounts has also been affected by the outage, however mostly local browsing has been the issue.
With international browsing all our adsl users have been experiencing intermittent connectivity

SAIX has confirmed that they are experiencing concerns on the network.
Unplanned maintenance on the exchange is the reason behind the connectivity issues.
SAIX confirmed that the outage has been resolved, however we have just received notification that the outage is still occurring.

Assigning DNS

You can try the following dns addresses.
Telkom DNS
------
Primary - 196.25.255.34
Secondary – 196.25.255.3

Open DNS
------
Primary - 208.67.222.222
Secondary – 208.67.220.220
