I have't had connectivity since Friday morning. Logged a fault with Telkom, initially they told me that there is a problem on the Fourways exchange and that they are fixing it. It is still not working today, it says my adsl line is physical up (the sync light is on) but I am not getting an IP address (ie not making a PPPoE connection). I tried 3 different routers, so I am pretty sure it is the line.

Anyone else in that area (Lonehill in particular) having issues?

I have the same issue. Phone is working and modem is syncing. Noticed the problem Friday afternoon (it was working at about 6am on Friday).

Logged a call on Friday and then all nonsense starts:
- On Friday was told that it was a problem on the ADSL exchange and they will fix it
- Sat morning they said they are still working on it
- Sat lunch time they said that there is nothing wrong with the Exchange it is my problem
- They then recreated my service - not sure what this means, but still not working
- Then was told that my ADSL modem is damaged or my line
- I then went out to buy another modem router just to check, and it is not the modem routr
- Checked with different accounts - still no luck
- As of this morning still not working

Same Issue - Cragavon

Hi Guys,

Same issue here. Noticed PPPoE would not establish although ADSL Sync was up. Logged a call and got told it was a widespread problem on Saturday morning. Consultant told me the issue was currently being worked on.

This morning its a different story, now its a service provider issue /wrist. It clearly is the same problem. Just not sure how long it will take those moegoes to figure it out ... I wouldnt hold my breath.

Pretty much the same sequence of events as magic dude. Also bought a new modem, only to discover it is not that. Also got the "it's the ISP" story, but after trying three accounts from three ISPs I don't buy that.

Bloody idiots. I wander how long this will take to fix. Can't work from home without it, and I really hate going to the office on a Monday.

Also can't connect this morning here in Pta. Modem connects, stays connected for 5min and then disconnects etc.

Just getting "PPPoE: Connection terminated" and "PPPoE: Doing disconnect" feedback via system log file.

Same story here, Pretoria, Synch is fine, but PPP wont fire. Problem must be on the BRAS or RADIUS servers? I believe they are centralized, so any maintenance or even failure would be moerse area wide.

I dont think a screwed DSLAM would cause PPP failure hey, think the Telkom 1st line is on drugs again.

Same problem also in Pta. Was working fine last night. Down since this morning. Can't get through to Webafrica call centre.

same here and also in pretoria.

It connects up fine but doesn't stay connected very long then ppp dies.

I am also in the Fourways area.I havnt had a DSL connection since friday.I am also being given the run around by Telkom.Apparently they carried out "routine maintenance" on the exchange.

still same issue - on the phone now, and they mention that I am the only one with the problem (gotta be the router they say).

If you are experiencing problems, please log a call on 0800 375 375.

My fault was logged on Saturday morning.I have been phoned twice by Telkoms Quality Department to see if my problem was rectified promptly.

I telephoned Telkom now held for 10 minutes and received the following honest reply.Sir we are having a problem in the area.Estimated repair time unknown but hopefully by this evening. This is fourways area.

Ridiculous ANNOYING TELKOM

Same here,

Also only received a call from their QA department ... ridiculous!
I can guarantee you that you are not the only one with this problem. I was told this morning that the issue was not exchange/DSLAM related and that I would need to wait for a technician to personally investigate the issue.

I asked them how long it would take and they said with no backlog 48 hours. They also informed me they have a massive backlog so there are no guarantees.

I am so sick and tired of the rubbish service we receive from these clowns. It is going to give me a freaking heart attack!

Man they are a useless bunch.

On top of this I have had to downgrade to 2Mb because my signal is so crap.

I currently have 55db line attentuation and 12-13db SNR margin .... yip on the limits of unusable... ;-(

Telkom have multiple breaks in their trunking systems Nationally, they have engineers attending to this as a critical issue, more than this I haven't been told :)

Apologies

Sorry about the ranting guys, but Im really annoyed ;-(

My ADSL is working fine (Fourways/Chartwell area) but the network is down at my wife's school in Lonehill.

What worries me are the comments attributed to Reuben September in the Sunday Times yesterday. Apparently he has been playing fast and loose in a number of areas. To quote "at an Exco meeting in July 2008 September instructed that the company had to meet financial targets in order for the bonus pay-out to happen. The CEO gave instructions for the reduction of quality of services to achieve the financial targets."

The Board meets on Tuesday (tomorrow) to consider his future. According to a senior Telkom official "he is in deep, serious trouble". Couldn't happen to a nicer guy?

I wonder what's going on - downtime in Rondebosch, Fourways and PTA... Not to mention how many people have downtime and don't post their problem here.

Last thing I was told that it should be fixed by COB today - pretty much the same answer I had on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This is the first issue I have ever had since joining them in October.
