Dear WebAfrica.

So Afrihost, Axxess and Mweb already talked about speed upgrades for their subscribers.

Are you guys just sleeping and don't know anything about the upgrades or just decided to not give any upgrades?

After all the Petrol, Electricity, DSTV price increases some good news would have been good.

I just received an upgrade on my 50 Mbps WebAfrica connection to 100 Mbps... Actually caused the connection to be out for 30 mins, but all back now.

Is your upload speed reduced by 5Mbps now as well?

Their new packages all have lower upload speeds compared to other ISP's although a little bit cheaper.

25/10 Mbps - R599
50/10Mbps - R799
100/20Mbps - R899
200/40Mbps - R1099

Did you get any notification? Or did you have to do a speedtest to realise that you've been upgraded. My line hasn't been upgraded.

I didn’t see any improvement with my download speed on my 100/50 line but the upload speed is suddenly 100 as well.

That means you are on a 200/100 line now and the account is capping the speeds.

I've been looking for this thread. I spoke to Webafrica sales just now. They have new pricing structures and changed their 100/50 to 100/20 and 200/100 to 200/40. The lady said they do not plan to apply the Openserve upgrade my 100/50 line I can upgrade to the 200/40 line at the new price myself. She aslo said they are not planning to compete with the other ISPs. I've been a customer for so long, but I guess it's time to switch.

What a joke, not planning on competing with other ISPs.

Also think it is time to move but after having read of the challenges of getting them to release the line to another ISP or taking ages to get it done makes me wonder if it's worth the hassle.

My line was upgraded automatically yesterday (no request made) from 50/25 to 100/20 but the customer zone still shows that I'm on the 50/25 package at R969 p/m. No option to immediately apply the new package either so guess I'm paying the old fee for another month. It does provide the option to upgrade to 200/40 ASAP though.

Noting this is a firm which has opted out of offering any reasonable sort of aftersales service.

Essentially asset-stripping by cheaping out on support lets them take advantage of a captive audience and making it incredibly onerous for customers to switch provider when they discover the malfeasance.

This is scandalous, on the level of the Rain shittery but somehow without the top billing the other company gets in the news for their service failings.

I had a similar problem. They upgraded my router and had to change some of my cat5 cables to get above the 100 speed.

I spoke to WA today. They told me I need to manually change my package on the Client portal. I'm currently on 50/25 @R949.00. The "upgrade" available to me is 100/20 @R899.00, and will only take effect at the beginning of the next calendar month.

I got told the same story, but my line has indeed been upgraded with no changes made by myself.

So tonight my connection is absolutely garbage.

Major packet loss and latency somewhere upstream. Does anybody experience the same issues?

The banner ads on the side of MyBB loads for like 20 seconds. Youtube says I'm offline.

Edit: looks like only Google services, so probably not Webafrica's fault.

Looks like my automatically upgraded account is now being throttled back down to 50/25Mbps, after it had been running at 100/50Mbps for the last few days. I guess if you don't manually change the package yourself, which only takes effect the beginning of the next month you'll pay the old price and get the old speed too.

Anyone else here that had theirs automatically upgraded also noticed the same? Check your speeds, don't assume you have been automatically upgraded permanently. Seems that was just their technical glitch, now they'll make sure you chose the new package if you want your speed upgrade.

Mine not quite hitting 100, but still way more than 50.
