Hi guys

Just wanted your opinion of which option would be better to choose.

I am keen on Webafrica option of Titan Complete 2 (4mb line [up to 10mb] + 25GB cap) dunno if its shaped for R599 plus phone line of R130 comes up to R+ - R750 all inclusive
R69 for 1GB topup (shaped)
R99 for 1GB topup (unshaped)

Amobia's 2 Megabit per second No Cap for R649 all inclusive
R1999 Standard Install (once off)
1 Private IP address

Main usage will be for streaming (no buffering) watching online sport or movies
Downloading music,games,software and some movies and series

I am not going to download the whole freakin net so my monthly usage should be about 20GB-50GB

Speed is more important for me then cap.

I would appreciate your pro's and con's on both and your choice and why would your choose it.
If there is a better option then it will be welcome.

I am not going to pay Telscum R550 for nothing when i did not even start browsing

Over wireless your latency will suck. With a private IP address it's trickier/impossible if you want to be able to "dial in" to your home network for remote desktop, managing torrents, security cameras, etc.
Why would you need a 1gb topup on uncapped?
 
Wireless latencies doesn't have to sux. Like when I did the MikroTik basic training course, we were on a 50Mbps wireless link to IS and had latencies of like 3ms to Take2.co.za :)

Paying R650pm for a private IP address is quite expensive, especially if you're not guaranteed to get 2Mbps at all times. Having a private IP address would mean that you can't host any games, nor can you remote desktop to your PC from the Internet.
The problem with wireless is that you share your bandwidth with everyone in your suburb. Like in Stellenbosch, where I'm staying, both the 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz ranges are already occupied that you would struggle to setup a stable Point to Point Wireless link even, unless you have clear line of sight and equipment with like 31dB gain.

Amobia is also available in Stellenbosch, and I can actually connect to their network and ping Internet sites from their network without even having to register/log in :D

As far as gaming and stability goes, ADSL is definitely your best bet. Perhaps within the next month or so, the price of 4Mbps ADSL would hopefully drop OR it would be upgraded to 10Mbps.

I am not playing games online nor do i remotely access my pc from the net.
As i said my priority is affordability then speed. I am not going to pay those Telscum suckers phone line rental and adsl line for the amount of R550 without browsing yet. R100 more i get uncapped 2MB line with Amobia. I can pull more from them instead of being capped with Webafrica.
 
Well the feedback I have seen on the forum's is that Amobia is the bomb, why don't give them a call to setup a test and see if their 2mb/s uncapped will suit you. If it does then you get to bypass the devil(Telkom).

And to the naysayers, WIFI is not always going to have high latency, it is always going to be location and network quality dependent.

How is Web africa when compared to mweb? and when they say upto 10mps do they mean that it can be as low as 384kps at any time?

Already signed up with Mweb, but have no issue changing if the speed is constant and decent on a 4meg line.

Anyone on Web Africa`s upto 10 meg offer...? whats the speed like... i know the line speed can only ever go upto 3.4/5 megs, but hows the torrents perfomance?
 
StevieG, looking at WiFi there is always EEC as well. Seems they have thier own private DC++ server too.

Currently I am with Afrihost 4M uncapped. I do not DL a lot, so for me there is no speed problems that I can see.
For all that other stuff I use my WUG connection :)
 
A 4mb fixed line option is the best option for a high speed connection & regular downloads.
Unshaped data has no protocols and is best suited for running online applications like online gaming.
Webafrica's Titan option is a shaped account.You are also able to Recharge this service at R45.00 p/3Gb's

Just a correction, WebAfrica's topups is R15 per GB with the recharge option [starting with 3GB vouchers] .

I'm on Titan 2 and really can't complain, speeds are great , latencies are solid , literally zero downtime etc. I can't compare it to Mweb (since i didn't go that route) , but it was an improvement from my Afrihost (IS) account. Specifically international speeds when i stream [and most of my bandwidth is actually going towards streaming]. I use a specific site in Sweden which stream anything under the sun and IS/Afrihost simply couldn't keep up the speed, WA average about 250-300 kBytes/sec [on a 4MB line] to that specific site [where IS was going at 80-120 kBytes/sec]

We still offer an pre-paid top up at R69.00 which will roll over each month.
The recharge R45.00 for 3gb does not roll over and is only available on monthly services.
