Ok, while waiting for telkom to install ive been cheking out ISP's and Webafrica looks good to me, but I have the following question

I use around 7 to 9 GB usually, but some months I may have to get 12 to 13GB ( shaped is fine, but would like the higest speed possible for HTTP from telkoms 1024k line )

Now if I take a 10GB account at R490, can I up the GB using prepaid on the months I need to, or am I going to have to use prepaid for it all ( ie just keep buying whatever I need that month )?

I believe they have a facility to buy more prepaid for the month that you need on their regular accounts. I have a prepaid only account and in the software, which I believe is the same for their normal packages, they have an option to buy more prepaid ;)

You will have to email them for a definite answer though.

The highest theoretical speed would be (1024 / 8) = 128kb/s, but obiously you won't come close to that due to tcp overhead and the sorts. In most cases, you should get about 80% - 90% of your max speed, which in this case is 115kb/s

With regard to the 10gb account, unused b/w won't be carried over to the next month, however if you used their prepaid b/w, 10gb will cost R700 and your unused b/w will be carried over.

What you could do is buy a smaller 5gb account from WebAfrica for R290 p/m and then if needed, purchase an additional 5gb of prepaid b/w for R350. You'll land up paying R640 in total, but any b/w which is then unused will just carry over to the following month.

Think I found my answer in their FAQ:

Is it possible for me to purchase more bandwidth on my cap?
Yes, you would be able to purchase more bandwidth via your client service area, click on "Services" then on "Manage" next to your adsl account, then on "Purchase prepaid bandwidth".

So will probably get a 5 or 10GB account and then buy extra prepaid if needed

The nice thing is that that the prepaid bandwidth gets carried over to the next month of not used

confirmation

i'm on webafrica 10gb shaped and have been able to buy prepaid GBs when I've reached my 10GB.

Indeed you can , you are able to topup your account at any stage should you need more bandwidth, this could be a once off topup when you need it, your are not bound to topup on a monthly basis at all. All unused bandwith does get carried over monthly and is put in reserve untill you need it. Shaped bandwidth costs R70 per gig.

You see now nobody will say anything, but until TelkomInternets status changes on Relaxed Capping you almost always get atleast 6GB out of an account. I have never had less than 13GB out of one account.

R480 for 10GB WebAfrica or R498 for a definite 6GB, BUT most probably in the regions of 20GB. Use a WebAfrica Prepaid in the event you are capped, which with the usage you just said, will probably only cap the first account, if it even does that.
