Webafrica ripoff artists

I might be naive or possibly too ignorant. I have noticed that my 50mb fibre with Webafrica has gotten a bit too steep lately.
I started to compare prices and then also on a whim checked the Webafrica website pricing after putting in my address. The same 50mb line that I pay R929 for they are charging R639. This can't be right, so I began the arduous journey of trying to contact their support, fml. Eventually got a response on their WhatsApp support line. After a lot of back and forth, I am told I could "downgrade my line". I ask them to what speed, and it turns out I can downgrade to the exact same speed I am on, how this is a downgrade makes no sense. I then state that in essence Webafrica is charging its clients too much hoping they won't query it, in my case almost R300 a month. If you are with Webafrica check that you are not paying too much and if you are considering Webafrica...RUN AWAY!
OMG! I have just discovered this same WebAfrica issue more than a year later! @WebAfrica Helper I've been with them for years and only now randomly looked at their current prices to find that my same package is also nearly R300 cheaper and for how long? I guess I'm pretty dumb for not checking these things but as a service provider I thought I could trust, they should have communicated that my plan was legacy and asked if I wanted to down/upgrade possibly YEARS ago!
Now I'm going to jump ship because this is just wrong on every level!

well then ,sonofabitch...
I pay R1079 for the 50/50 package via Vumatel.
And it is advertised for R719.
@WebAfrica Helper, So how do you fix this blatant stealing?
If I want to fix this you say I have to pay you R999 cancelation and then onto new package?
How about you just start billing the right price?

Yeahhh... I wonder how many others are in this same predicament. I've been paying R1029 for 50/50 like some kind of fool.
The chat agent said that they can't change your package unless you gave consent otherwise you stayed on the legacy packages, BUT if they never communicated that these packages even existed then how can we give consent? The chat agent also claimed that there were emails sent out about these changes but I searched my inbox and all I ever got was my invoice and notices of an INCREASE!

ftfy

the only solution is to leave, I was stuck in that Stockholm syndrome for years with WA as well, I got out, so should you

R999 is a small price to pay to rid you of this disease

@WebAfrica Helper seems to be hiding after making a grand speech yesterday. Not read the PM, not bothered to respond here.
Should chat to my Media buddies. They woul dlove to do an expose on this little gem. Wonder how many people will go banana and light up their help lines then...

Public sector levels of c*ntishness from WebAfrica.

Each year they plummet further into their own upturned bungholes, laying waste to any sense of ethics, customer service and simply being human. Directors must be walking excrement, the sort you cross the street to avoid.

Lmk looks like WA rep pops a apology comment late at night and dips for a few months.

I guess you missed the "WebAfrica sucks" comments we have made over the years, hopefully you will be joining in now and educate the public.

I was in EXACTLY the same boat...
Webafrica were charging me R1,400 per month, then I saw an advert for the same package for R1,100pm! Now here comes the trick. I was an old customer so wasn't liable for this R999 goodbye penalty as that only applies to new customers. BUT if you change packages or prices etc you are liable for the R999 goodbye penalty! I told them to adjust my price and so I'm saving R300pm (in 3 months I have saved the penalty amount)

Can someone explain WTF the R999 penalty for saying goodbye to them is for?

I saw it, but for 5 years i never had a problem, not one day of missing or dead line. it just works. So I never had to contact the help.

hey??? you need to pay for them to fix their corruption? how does that fly? you did not change a package, they had you on the wrong price?
@WebAfrica Helper, when are you gonna wake up and answer questions directed at you? 4 days now and nothing, not a bleep or a bugger off. Fly in, give some lame answer as to we will charge you and then away again???

What would be the consequences of refusing to pay the R999 extortion?

Eventually they hand you over to a debt collector who will bug you relentlessly. They may go the blacklist route on your credit profile. Especially if they use Accountability
Is it debt though? I would question the legality of such a made up fee to start with.

That and debt collectors shouldn't scare anyone. Most don't pay etolls and sabc. What makes webafrica so scary. Fibre is a prepaid service to start with.

Whether it is debt or not is debatable. I have family who suffered with this company, and that's what happened. Told them to get lost, and it's only now dropped off the credit record. No judgement, just an adverse listing.

It's clearly a cunning tactic because they know clients will be pissed when they find out they've been overcharged
