Webafrica silly question?

Hi, this is probably silly but it does bother me because I don't understand it.
Lately I will be working (or pretending to work) and using my Webafrica connection when I get a dialog box similar to a dialup box and the machine wants to connect to Webafrica. I click connect and it appears to dial in and connect (process is similar to dial-up).
It connects and then I have two little network icons running in the system tray.
Can someone shed some light on this?
 
So you want to know why the connection process is similar to dialup? Or why you have 2 network icons? Or something else?
 
I helped someone setup ADSL on a PC previously connected to a 56k connection. After the ADSL connects it still askes me "do you want to connect".

I just deleted the 56k connection under Network Connections.

i assume you mean in Internet Exploder?

If so, look under tools - connections or similar, should be a setting asking you if you want to connect. Each version differs and I never use them, so not sure exactly where.

Oh I see what you mean. But no I just delete it in Network Connections. ;)
 
I also get this sometimes. I think that what is happening is a program (such as an auto-update proggy from some or other software you have) is trying to connect to the net but does not realise that you are already connected to the net. So it asks if it can connect. When you click ok it then detects that you are already connected and carries on.

The two icons you have are different: The one is for the internet connection and the other is for your LAN connection. Click on each one and you will they are at different speeds (the LAN one will be at 100Mbs).
 
This may also be a silly question, but...Why would it need to dial up or even ask to dial up? With broadband, aren't you connected via your ethernet/network cable? So your LAN as such, is also your internet connection, because your 100Mbs LAN, would be connected to your router/modem, which is connected to your DSL line. I only have my LAN icon displaying in my taskbar, and im always connected.
 
Not if you using a modem and not a router like me. My ADSL modem always brings up a "DIAL UP CONNECTION" when connecting. The pc is connected to my modem via a USB port. The LAN network cable connects my pc to my laptop directly.

When I first got ADSL the DIAL up box freaked me out cause I thought I was going to gett his huge phone bill, but of course I didnt.

The someone I helped also was in bridge mode and still ask the "connect" question sometimes. Even after I'm connected. Weird. But I just deleted it.

@ telkomhater - Yes, the USB modem/router only allows bridge mode (dail up mode)
