Webafrica unveils impressive ADSL data prices

After hours, is that the same the 12 - 6am slot?

This is my last month on WebAfrica as the vox deal was so good and meets my needs, I never even used up my afterhours data on webafrica but I must admit it was always full speed for me.

No thanks, Been there done that, got the T-Shirt.

People should steer clear of WebAfrica at all costs, OpenWeb 2.0 in my opinion

What exactly is wrong with WebAfrica?

I have been with them about a year without any issues. I experienced 1 billing issue but was rectified after phoning the billing department.

I am paying exactly the same amount but they increased my anytime cap significantly.

I want to jump ship if there are any issues I should know about. Why dont you recommend them?

+1 on this.

They are not a company to deal with and you will get yourself burned and blacklisted on credit bureaus faster than you can say what'sup!

Why blacklisted? Do they try to debit your account after cancellation?

I cant say Im ever interested in shaped capped data, used them for years and left after I had enough of slow throughput.

Webafrica has a very cumbersome method of cancellation. You cannot complete an online form (like most hosting companies do), you cannot send them an email, you cannot send them a letter. Years ago you needed to contact them telephonically and then they will tell you what to complete and send them. It is a difficult long process. But, if they have not approved the cancellation and notified you in writing, your package remains active.

They leave you for a few months, then contact you and tell you you owe them thousands. You cannot dispute this, as they inform you the processes are clear in their terms and conditions.

They appoint debt collectors to collect the debt, and after that attorneys to take legal actions. Their attorneys immediately goes to court and gets judgments and list you on all credit bureaus.

Nothing wrong with this, but personally I do not like to deal with a company involved in these practices. I prefer a clear easy and fast manner of canceling a hosting account. The alternative is dire to any person dealing with them.

Price reduction is welcome, but no rollover? No thanks.

Is this shapped or unshapped accounts? I remember when I was them that they use to have a "Pro" capped account, and that was the more expensive unshapped version of a capped account. Their normal capped account was so heavily shapped that I could not watch Netflix in HD on a 10MB line durring peak times.

I do appreciate more for same price, so thank you WA

Whilst I fully understand some people and their very valid concerns (see previous posts), I thankfully have had a mostly good usage experience over the past months and my few hassles seem to have been temporary glitches. This has meant that I have not needed support, billings etc so I can't comment on this side of things.

As for the recent change in cancellations policy - that really is shocking service

From what I heard from a person working there, and the apparent number of people jumping ship, I think this is too little, too late. Their VPS hosting packages are ok, but I wouldn't touch their ADSL packages.

I'm glad I stuck it through with Afrihost, their Afrigreen network seems to be nice and stable. Pity about no rollovers though.

I cancelled my WebAfrica account last week, and was informed that they were releasing new packages this week. If it wasn't for the stupid 30 days notice and having to phone in to cancel my account, I probably would have stuck around to see what the new specials were, and now seeing what they are, wouldn't have cancelled my service.

But because I was forced to cancel by the end of last month so that I don't have to wait for 2 months for the cancellation to take effect, they won't benefit from me sticking around. Honestly I was happy with the speeds I was getting and having access to their news servers, they just didn't compare on price.

This is a very decent offering from Webafrica - I think it is in response to Vox's aggressive pricing. I was with Webafrica for a couple of months and I can't complain. I had very good output speeds. I also had no problems to cancel my account with them and in the few instances I needed support their service was quick and efficient. I have since moved to Vox as their accounts offer very good value for money and the speeds have been consistently good. (Their uncapped after hours is also great!) Note however, that there is also no cancellation option on the Vox portal so you need to phone in.

Anyone still have their old packages to compare? Also where can I find their cancellation policy, I will have to cancel mine because I'm moving end of January.
