Your comments and assistance would be appreciated

I use The Kalahari Hosting, they're cheap, and quick to respond. A great place to have a site that you mess around with.

I use VS2008 to build my sites, so I never checked to see if they provide any tools...

The best way to learn how to swim, is to get in the water.;)

I also use Texo, they're really cheap, offer excellent service and overall brilliant.
Check mey sig.

Just whatever you decide to do... DON'T USE DREAMWEAVER! It's just horrible...

1) First register the domain at http://co.za, and pay
2) You can host your website on your own PC. But will anyone be able to access it? How? Of course you'll have to leave your PC on all the time, with a live connection to the internet. If you have a regular ADSL connection, this has a dynamic IP, so you'll need to use a dns forwarding service like dyndns (which slows things down a lot), or get an internet connection with a static IP, which is registered and routed to at the main SA domain server. Another thing: all access to your website uses your allocated bandwidth, and because users drive traffic, you can use up your month's 3GB bandwidth in a few hours. Also, ADSL connections are asynchronous, ie the have uploads much slower than downloads, so sending data from your home PC will be very slooow for people who use your site.

Far better to use a hosting service.

For web page design and management, the best tool out there today is Microsoft Expression Web. It is fully standards-compliant, outperforms DreamWeaver, and gets rave reviews from users. This is one thing Microsoft does properly - it's best of breed. Worth checking out.

LOL there's nothing wrong with Dreamweaver.
And no, it doesn't mess up any HTML... :p

Dreamweaver? I use Dreamweaver on a professional basis. It's on par with VS in comparison between php and aspx.

Hi there Neo-T,

Great to see you trying your hand at web design - I would not recommend that you host the site yourself due to the learning curve (and possible extra expense / time involved). If you're looking for a web hosting provider that you can count on for support and who know what they are doing, then please feel free to see the link in my signature.

actually its for advanced users like me;)

I use eclipse. That makes me even more uber advanced! :P

Edit: Oh, and I host all my sites in the States. I use www.lunarpages.com

They are pretty good. They are cheap and offer unlimited bandwidth and storage space (I still have to try and test their definition of unlimited, though! :D)
