use MS FrontPage. you can also review the html code generated.

They still make FrontPage? Found out the other day that they still make Dreamweaver as well.

Notepad++ or some text editor if you wanna learn. FrontPage/Deamweaver and the like add extra bs to the source. My opinion anyway.

Wordpress themes? Doesn't it have a theme downloader built in? Else Google maybe. A well known CMS like wordpress will have a large community adding themes/plugins for it.

why suggest that he codes it in html when wordpress will be a much better idea where he wont have to update every page when he adds a new page in etc?

just google for free wordpress themes there are hundreds of sites.

MS WebMatrix is a good development tool - supports many platforms: Joomla, WordPress, the works...

Design locally and upload, what more could you ask for?

Hi There,
If you are looking for themes then you can try template monster
Dreamweaver is still very active and while it may add extra code to the HTML it makes the development very quick and easy so the extra lines is the price you pay for the ease of development. All code generators do add extra lines in.

Regards

Tim

The default WP theme is actually very good as its a responsive design. First work on improving that design and then consider rolling your own.

All the best.

I think you missed a step. The hosting.

Are you using wordpress.com to host your site. AFAIK they don't allow you to upload custom themes for free at least
or are your going to use a hosting service that has wordpress installed i.e. from wordpress.org

frontpage? really?
Please dont use frontpage!

Zigackly. WebMatrix handles many platforms for offline development and handles the uploading once you're done. Everything you need is available free, if you can be bothered to look.

I'm responding wrt Thread Title, for noobs you're on the correct track using W3schools and asking here.

Dreamweaver etc. have their niche for fast design but sooner or later you will run into a wall with wysiwyg software, by all means give them a go and look under the hood to see what they do so you can form your own opinion about it.

As mentioned here, you need to choose your host server, be it on Windows or Linux it determines a lot of what direction you'll be heading wrt to coding languages (php, asp) and subsequently IDE's and what databases you will use.

I've registered and hosted with Afrihost because their rates are pretty decent.

My site will only go live next year once I'm done designing it.

What hosting package have you taken with them? Does it give you full access to install wordpress?
If you are not have a live site then it doesn't make sense you're paying for hosting.

Can you please tell me exactly what you are doing with this site - WordPress sites are mainly best for blogs? I am more than willing to provide some advice if you just PM me your requirements - people make all sorts of mistakes setting up their first site, and land up hosting on stupid plans that don't give them the freedom they want/need.

We can all tell you a million things but not of it helps if none of us don't know what it is you are trying to achieve.

Any quick advice on why new posts or edits of old post do not show up? I was given a WP site to host on our website. However the posts do not show without manual refreshing (and multiple attempts at that), sometimes I have to use another browser or try sometime later. wp-admin/edit.php sometimes shows the file so I can edit, sometimes it does not. Preview shows the update but when I go to the site I don't see it or see the old page. Is it caching somewhere, and not fetching from the server, despite refreshing? Maybe I have some settings that are incorrect?

I haven't learnt WP, just need some quick advice.

As far as I know, most of the Afrihost hosting packages do come with the Softaculous Apps Installer that allows you to quickly and easily install Wordpress and a host of other CMS and other scripts. They even roll out updates for you right from the control panel.
I am currently using Afrihost for most of my hosting needs and apart from php.ini I pretty much have access to a lot of stuff to configure databases, etc.
