Website design for noobs!!!

Any quick advice on why new posts or edits of old post do not show up? I was given a WP site to host on our website. However the posts do not show without manual refreshing (and multiple attempts at that), sometimes I have to use another browser or try sometime later. wp-admin/edit.php sometimes shows the file so I can edit, sometimes it does not. Preview shows the update but when I go to the site I don't see it or see the old page. Is it caching somewhere, and not fetching from the server, despite refreshing? Maybe I have some settings that are incorrect?

I haven't learnt WP, just need some quick advice.

Check if you have a caching plugin installed and clear the caches..

WordPress sites are mainly best for blogs?

They used to be ... but not anymore.
A number of decent sites are running wordpress in the backend, not just for blogs, but as full CMS' and even as SAAS
