hi

i'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but, i need help getting quite a bit of stuff from a certain website. To be more specific, one of the suppliers i use has a full catalogue thingy on thier webiste, the problem is that i need to basically copy the image of each item together with its description and basically make my own catalogue from for my customers.

There are like hundreds of items and i would imagine it could take some time to click on each item then copy the image and description, paste it somewhere and move onto the next item.

Is there something out there or someone with a better idea of doing this to make my life just a little bit easy?

Thnx

Why don't you hire someone to do it for you. You can maybe get a few students to do the job.

Try this tool first and see if it copies all the images and pages you need first...

I cannot think of an easy way to do that.

If a gun were to be pointed to my head I would do this in the following way ...

Assuming the catalogue you are looking at is not flash based but rather bitmaps (jpg, gif.png etc) you could do it with PICASA/ACDsee/infranview, I imagine.

These programs should have the means to look at a folder with images and create a catalogue based on those images

First you need to clear your internet cache, then you have to discover your cache location, then go ahead and browse only that specific site paging through the pages you require.

Theoretically all those images will be stored on your browser's cache directory, then simply point PICASA/ACDsee/infranview to that folder and manually add description to each thumbnail PICASA/ACDsee/infranview discovers.

Once that is done you should be able to create html based on that.

That does sound like a good idea but then what about the product description next to each image.

Because the webiste doesnt make it much easier as i need to click on a thumb and then the bigger image along with the product description comes up, then i need to copy those details. So you can imagine what a task that would be.

You've obviously not downloaded many porn thumbnails in your lifetime... :D

Firefox -> right-click picture -> either "k" or "v", depending on whether you want to save the image AS YOU SEE IT, or (if it links to a larger pic) want to save the link -> Enter

:D

Oh is that what we call it now a days...lol...well then constructive surfing it is

But seriously guys i need this thing to work, if i right click on the description and image i get an option to 'export to excel', it exports to excel with nothing, is there a plugin or something needed to use that feature.

The thing is, getting the image is only half the work done, i need the description as well.

But i'll try a few things that were mentioned here, tonight.
