Hey guys, looking for some feedback on a personal site I designed. Not realy a detailed review like the title suggests, just some feedback on the layout, design and colours.

By designed you mean imported the SketchyTheme Wordpress theme? It's a nice clean theme and the colours seem to work.

Nice photo - did you take it?

I redesigned the sketchy theme, the original one looks alot different, i added new sidebar and allot of other stuff.

*sigh*

I'm quite tired of all the blog- and CMS-based websites jumping up all over the show. What ever happened to nice, quality personal sites with a touch of individuality?

Other than that, you can't really fault your site, seeing as Wordpress is a pretty stable blog. The empty ad spaces make it look a bit incomplete though. I'd remove them until you actually have some ads to put in there. Advertise somewhere on the site that you have ad-space available.

Well it is a blog so why not use wordpress? Why reinvent the wheel? If it was another type of site sure then I would have done everything from scratch. The touch of ndividuality is the look and feel i created for the site.

gandpa its attack of the clones :eek::eek:

I'm with Kloon. Why re-invent the wheel - and pay for it?

Nice clean look. Lovely logo too. :) Menus all CSS, site works without JS... I like.

I agree that this copy/paste everything looking the same style etc etc is a bit tiring, but do you remember back in the day when every chop and his dog (literally) had one of those Geocities custom web sites.

Rainbow size 26 font, so many animated gifs the epileptics could browse the site and a picture of the afore mentioned author standing in his back garden with a list of his/her "likes" below on a tiled background that meant you couldn't read the text?

Although what we have now is an Attack Of The Clones, but it's huge improvement on what it used to be!

I still have my GeoCities site backed up on a CD somewhere... hold on, I'll get it for you... :p

Cool just warn me so I can fetch my sunglasses before I check it out :D

I think Kloon's site is pretty cool, looks clean and neat, although lacking in content.

My main issue with sites like this is that the whole page reloads when you click a link/meny option. The best sites are the ones that only reload the content section, like most of the Google products do.

I like it. Just get rid of "Your add here" stuff

Replace the 250x250 adspace with a daily/weekly YouTube video, something that's really funny or geeky to go with the theme. Don't just write about code too, maybe try and do a personal view as a geek from Cape Town, like if you go to the shop how you bust on the Incredible Corruption staff or something

Like the shot of the mountain alot ;)

Oh and instead of having the following format for your SEO:

domain.co.za/year/month/day/post

just do domain.co.za/post

Also, get Platinum SEO Pack (Plugin) and Auto-Tagger (which will auto tag your posts) and XML SiteMap. Be sure to configure the options to include tags as well. Include a translator (I use http://www.nothing2hide.net/)

Then submit your sitemap to google webmaster tools.

Thanks for the advice, already doing the xml sitemap thing and submitting it to search engines.

Call me hyper critical, but I believe this is why you asked...
The shadow thingy that you've done looks good, but I'd lose the one on the bottom of the post.

Firstly, cos it isn't realistic for a shadow to be cast that way and that the bottom one gets cut off quite abruptly on the top left end.

You should also look at including a footer

I really like your domain name and the content but I think that the pic you've chosen is more suitable for a travel website. Would you consider using something more funky / tech related?

The font used for igeek on the top left isn't "readable" - if you know what I mean. Perhaps consider using a simple font?

Thanks, I was thinking about removing the shadow images and maybe replacing them with a normal thin border.

i disagree, i think the images should stay as it's a quite nice roundoff to the whole post.

as for the banner image, i like it as is, but maybe fade it to some binary code or something
