Websites can dehumanise society

Modern technology is undermining people's ability properly to communicate, retarding social skills and, in worst case scenarios, increasing suicide risks, the head of the Roman Catholic Church in England said in an interview published over the weekend.

I'd be more worried about the desensitizing effect sites like the infamous /b/ has on people. It really hardens you emotionally, which may be good for soldiers and the like, but isn't good for society in general.

The Roman Catholic Church is the biggest dehumaniser in European history, so Archbishop Vincent Nichols can shut his <obscenity removed>, thank you very much.

England is a Protestant country, slowly evolving into secularism, and thank God for that.

I like how he uses one example to somehow 'prove' that social-networking websites such as Facebook are leading to an increased number of suicides. Poor logic right there...

There's also some excellent sites out there, where you can get help from.

Or baking recipes.

Or finding help on wound treatment.

Unfortunately, you also get siff stuff like /b/, goatse, tubgirl and others, to name a few.

But if he's implying that he wants the Church to control/filter the Internet, then they can forget it as they will filter out other religious groups not conforming to their standards.

But the parents should allow (and encourage) their children to visit friends and get away from their computer.
