WeBuyCars I bought a vehicle from we buy cars on 27 December 2021 for R 59 900, Port Elizabeth and we found a car that we really liked and the dekra report did not indicate any major issues. It did however give us description that there is a MINOR DEFECT on the gearbox, and that the function is not impaired. We also accepted the fact the the vehicle needed a service - which was completely fine with us. I drove the vehicle to work a few times, but after a couple of days, the gears slipped out of 4th gear and would only drive in 3rd gear. There was a warning on the dashboard that indicated the gearbox is faulty and needs to be checked out When we took the vehicle to be serviced and checked out, the service center put the vehicle on their computer and the report showed that there was significant problems with the gearbox and we obtained a quotation of R35 000 to have it fixed! I reported this on their website and someone called Marnus called us back. He sent me a WHATSAPP and directed me to their dekra report and said "helo please see dekra, the vehicle was bought on auction terms and conditions and unfortunately we will not assist with any cost related to the vehicle" I have been trying to call this gent, but he does not take my calls, I even tried to whatsapp him, but he refused to respond. Please be aware when dealing with this dealership, they refuse to assist in ANY way and at this stage, we cannot afford to fix the vehicle at this cost. Their "dekra" reports are misleading! Their staff (Mr Marnus) plainly refuses to make any contact with us. We were even willing to possibly take another vehicle and pay in to get a vehicle that we can actually drive.
We got feedback from We buy cars, that is our problem because we boughg the car on auction. The saleman actually recommeded that we buy the car on aution, he registered us at the dealership and put in a bid on his own laptop. Everthing is proberly on cctv.
My previous reviews they deleted. They really scammed us and I would never recommend them at all!!
 
Your post is confusing, did you go through a dealership and they did the purchase online with you?

There is a clear indication of the cars listed as to "grade". As well as to the T&C's. If you believe the DEKRA report was falsified, that could be raised as a concern but if its brought under auction terms, even with a report, it remains your problem. Most auctioneers allow inspection of the vehicle prior to purchase and it would be made available to you to have your own inspection.

Not to be nasty, but that is how an auction works, folks need to educate themselves on what they are getting into.

Yes at the dealership, but the salesmen did everything and promised us it was the best option.

While you probably don't have any (affordable) recourse, I will differ from the others here and agree that it is a scam. A salesperson pushing you into a direction without explaining the pros and cons over the other option is technically a scam. You usually sign something acknowledging that they did do so.

The lesson here, as always, is to read EVERYTHING before you sign.
I'm the ******* keeping estate agent, and lawyer waiting for 15 minutes while I read every page of any and all contracts, asking about everything I don't understand.
Stuff you sign when spending money is not the same as software terms and conditions.

Will people ever stop wasting their money with them. Bloody hell those "dekra" reports from WBC mean nothing. I dont even feel bad anymore. smh

I don't follow this though, how is the salesman involved? Its a online auction, so no commission etc. if he did it directly himself, even under he eyes of the salesman. But yes, bad advice would give a recourse but pretty sure he would have signed something stating advice given or T&C etc.

Why on earth would anyone go ahead with this purchase knowing that there is a fault with the gearbox and the vehicle has not been serviced recently???

If you bought the car under auction, you've got no recourse. That's how WBC does a lot of their business and it is a little scammy in away.

I am going to take a guess and say that some WBC cars are only for sale under auction.

You see an advert, look at the car, like it, and want to buy it. However the salesman says you can't just buy the car outright because some BS reason. You have to put in an offer on the auction. Or maybe they just suggest that it's because it will be cheaper that way?
Anyway, they then help you capture it on the system, possibly thinking that they are so nice helping you get the car at a better price.

Definitely on the scummy side if that's how it played out.
