Wedding gift lists

They need a frying pan, they want a Le Creuset frying pan.
They need a impact drill, they want a Makita impact drill.
Think you get my point, at least put small and affordable things on the list as well.

As long as you just eat a slice of dry toast and only drink a glass of tap water yourself.......cheapass

Sometimes you know what kind of quality you want. If I got a cheap Makro frying pan, it would just take up space in my cupboard for a year, and then I would give it to the domestic because it is never used. A list is a way to make sure you get at least something useful instead of everyone wasting their money on crap you don't want and will never use.

I give cash, and together with friends a hideous ornament that we use as a wedding card. Then we see where they hide it in the house. :D

Always give the Domestic the crap you don't want, huh?

There are four categories of acceptable gifts imo.
1) Cash
2) A gift voucher to Takealot.
3) Something very personal and thoughtful.
4) Help to pay for the wedding.

When I got married, we got three cutting boards ffs.

/me kicks thread back to life

Hmmm.... Would it be acceptable to ask for guests to "limit" their purchases to a specific store e.g. Game? I am thinking of doing this as Game has a fairly loose exchange policy and it would allow me to exchange the five toasters I might get for that Le Creuset frying pan I always wanted :crylaugh:

That works, except you won't get Le Creuset at Game.

Rather choose Hirsch where they have a selection of affordable and expensive stuff.

a bag of cement, it symbolises them building their life together

I love this idea!

I had a think about this whole wedding registry idea a while ago. I think a crowd-funding style of model would be best, if the couple choose the things they want in order of importance, then I can put a certain amount of cash in (R1, R100, R10k, whatever) and the store just automatically buys the items for them as the money comes in, in the order that they want.

I haven't seen anyone implement that sort of thing though. Personally - I don't think wedding gifts are important at all. I didn't ask for any, though I'd been living on my own for quite a while already and had most of what I needed. Some relatives insisted and brought things like photo frames or what have you but nothing expensive.
