Thanks - I see on canonrumor the 7D is rumored to be 1.6x

I get to keep the lenses :) Besides, if you don't have money for a photographer, you don't have money - girlfriend is feeling bad for them cause they're going to their wedding, then going straight home again - no honeymoon - no special night away from home, etc.

Which date? Maybe I'm available...PM me ;)

My next camera will be the 5D MK II, but that's still a long way away :)
It would be mine if it had a higher frame rate. Dual card slots would be nice too. And apparently faster AF?

What we did was ask any keen photogs on the guestlist to bring their camera and just go snap happy - one way or another you will end up with a handful of decent snaps.

We also placed a couple of disposable cameras on each table and told folk to go nuts then drop them in a box before leaving (the cameras not the folk I mean.) If cash is tight then chat to a few of the guests and as them to chip in it shouldnt be too expensive depensing on the number of guests...

It was a touch risky but the gamble payed off - we have just had a fantastic book printed with the pics that we chose out of several hundred that ended up on my computer :)

Out of interest, what do wedding photographers charge - on average?

Depends on many factors...ultimately, you get what you pay for.

Our prices start from about R4500 - R14,500 (various hours and products included)

I was told that they charge R1500 per 100 photos.

Printed photos?

Any photographers that will come and shoot a few photos on my wedding day, but I don't want any printed photos, just the DVD with all the photos on it.

The 5DmkII has the same AF as the original 5D, which is slower than the 40D/50D. As far as I know it's the AF from the 10D/20D, the body which the 5D was based on.

That looks like someone's photoshop dream. 15-85mm? The bodies of those two lenses look more like Sony's styling than Canon's. And the 7D body looks like a mix between xxxD and xxD lines. The rumours have been flying over a 7D for years, and it's never come true. Why 7 anyways? A 3D makes much more sense.

Not sure hey.

That is what we are looking for when we get married next year. We would like to print our own choice of photos. So would just like the set of photos in full quality on a DVD and print and enlarge them later on.
Photographer can still keep the copies if he wants to use it in his portfolio.
Will pay a reasonable price for a service like that.

No prints but all photos in full quality on DVD.

Most people used to just get DVD slideshows, but getting a photo album printed A4 is so much better, though costlier.

That's very kind of you! Remember, the photographer retains intellectual and artistic rights to the photograph, unless he or she sells those rights to you. Paying for the photographer's services does not imply that you are paying for the copyright on the photos.

I'd love to know what you consider reasonable...

I know he has the rights to the photos and I didn't imply that he should just hand the stuff over. We are not very big on printed photos and would rather have it all on DVD. If we decide to print them later on. Then we have that option.

I am looking to spend between R5000 and R7000.
