(no congrats, not engaged YET... very shortly though)

right, now I know that its mainly blokes on here... But I need some input

Im told I need to be booking a wedding venue 12-18months in advance. When I heard that I told them they talking complete nonsense. Yesterday I went to suikerbossie to have a look at their wedding venue, booked solid for Jan 2013 :wtf:

So I was wrong.

We didnt specifically want that venue, but now we are thinking we need to kick into overdrive to find a nice place and get it booked asap. Makes sense to us.

Thing is, we just not sure where exactly the "nice" places are? I mean we dont have time to drive around the whole Western Cape looking for the "gems" that most people dont know about. This is where you come in.

We dont have a lot of money to spend, in fact we quite limited, so if you could share your experiences of a lovely small (cosy) wedding venue that would be great. Perhaps it was the venue that you used? Or perhaps it was a freiend's wedding or something? At this point we looking at 70-80 people.

appreciate the help

If you are looking at booking wedding venues, you are, for all intensive purposes, engaged. The ring does not make a difference. Otherwise, I'm sure there has been quite a few threads on this, I'm sure if you look around you will find one.

What type of venue you looking for?

im looking for something really original. I just need to keep the cost in mind...

I found this, now that is original and awesome!! It's going to be a smallish wedding, so it cant be a big open place.. Needs to be kind cozy, make sense?

Even though it will be Jan 2013 (hot) so will need aircon of course

Suikerbossie is quite popular and doesnt just do weddings. They do alot of company functions as well, and generally cater for alot more than 70-80 people. What exactly is your budget? If you're looking for Winefarms for 70-80 people the venue hire will be roughly about R10k. 8-12 month lead time is realistic, but ja, there are those places that are booked up 24 months in advance. It all depends on what you want but if you want something "special" that's going to accomodate alot of people, you will pay a fair penny for it.

We were married in Vergelegen which was beautiful. 70-80 people for a wedding including a reception? You'll have a hard time keeping costs down on that one. We just had a daytime reception style wedding with maybe 20-30 in total.

SS Cable Restorer in Simons'town for a venue with differeance, they can cater for about 80+. Check their website.

thank you for all the replies, I appreciate it.

regarding the boat you mentioned above, they have closed it for events and is now part of a museum :( Already spoke to the lady now :(
