Weed growers thread

My first experiment with growing cannabis is going well, too well. I'm growing outdoors in 40l containers, but I can already see signs of them starting to get root bound. Any advise, other than transplanting into the ground or bigger containers?
Or is it fine to just leave it? I'd suspect that plants getting root bound is more of an issue when the container is really small.

Anyone here from Cape Town doing an outdoor grow? Mine is not going so well, almost half of my plants have turned into hermes, the other half all have wind damage. FML. Latest plant to get the chop.
Had a lot of wind here too - so far it doesn't seem to affect my plants too much. What strain are you growing? I think some strains are more susceptible to turn hermaphrodite.

I won't risk transplanting them so late in the season. I had quite a few plants this year in 20 litre containers which I thought was too small so I transplanted them to ground just before flowering. Surprisingly there wasn't root balls or anything looking off. I was planning on going with 40 litre fibrepots this year but I think going straight to ground with fewer and bigger plants might be the way to go this year. Also I'm going the greenhouse route as this Cape Town weather completely threw off my harvest this year. I read in our local paper they are also having issues with the grape harvest this year due to the weather so hopefully next year will be a proper harvest.

I grew a variety of seeds from over the years that I have collected. I started with 30 plants but down to 16 now, 2 males and the rest all hermes. I also have a Swazi line that I grow every year. Some of the seeds were like a decade old and showed some mutations. Most of my plants I would say are predominantly Sativas, on the Indica side I have some Hindu Kusk which I also grow every year.

hehe, very nice! Juust peeking over the wall ;)

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking now too - I did transplant one of my plants into a bigger container (it was still in a 10l container) a few weeks ago and it is now developing pollen sacs after my last post. These are supposed to be from good dinafem feminised seeds (California Hash Plant), so it could be from the transplant, or it can be from all the heat/wind we had recently.
From what I've read, there's not much about root bound causing herms - and it's starting to flower, so I'm just going to hope for the best rather than transplant.

I started the grow late last year, and it being my first grow, the plants are quite small - so pretty sure they can outgrow the 40l containers next year now that I know more. Bigger than 40l seems to be too difficult to manage, so I'll either plant late again in the 40l, or transplant to ground when they are big enough next year.

How are people growing in the small indoor containers I see online all the time without them getting root bound? Short grow period? Smaller strains? I'd prefer to keep to containers that I can move and easily manage soil/water.

I was surprised at how hardy these plants were given all the wind and heat, so didn't consider a greenhouse, but now that they are flowering, I might go that route too next season. I'm getting paranoid that the wind is going to cause damage.

Maybe with indoor growing they top a lot more than outdoor which stunts some of the growth. I've grown in 20 litre containers many times with no problems. Definitely invest in some wind protection if you're in the Cape it seems. Just waiting on my last two plants to go into flowering still.

What strain is that and the one next to it, looks a lot bigger?
Also why is your lower branches so empty, do you cut that off?

I also remove all lower branches and buds. You want the pant to concentrate on its best tops and removing lower branches and buds where they will not develop will push all that energy to the top and it must really pack on weight.

Those buds are big but they are not bending the stem big , you want it to basically bend the stem with its immense weight before harvesting.

I would agree on an indoor grow but not so much outdoor. I feel you are losing a lot of bud, if you were to trim the top colas and wait and then do a second harvest on the lower buds when they are mature I think the yield would be greater. Genetics most probably would also influence your decision. Just look at the attached pics from my B team and you'll see four different "structures" each requiring a different approach.

f?
Not sure what strain it is - def a Sativa, - my dog ate all my marking tags. The one next to it is Dinafem.

Post some pics of the Dinafem one, it looks more interesting. I can see the Sativa side but the leaves look a bit wider for me than what I'm used to.

how safe is this forum - as regards being traced ?

It could be a honeypot for every agency worldwide. Or meh.
There are more things to feel anxious about than being tracked for a pot plant picture or two on Mybb.

But I guess if law enforcement provides legit cause, Mybb, like almost every other site, would surrender whatever they have.
