I need to buy a new weight bench, the old has had its days. It's a Trojan. Bought from game for like R1500 back in 2013! (It has helped me so much)

I will admit, it's extremely difficult to progress when working out at home since the costs of weights and equipment is so limited unfortunately I have no choice right now.

Any ideas on a good bench? Preferably below 2K if possible. I dont need those cheapie weights like I got with the current one.

Ideally I'd want something that allows to squat but it's not possible I believe.

I currently squat using a power clean movement but low weight just for the sake of it...however if I add more weight , im unable to lift it over the head. Sucks.

But regardless, a good bench is needed. Appreciate all suggestions.

Derail:

My trojan bench and the trojan dumbell set was bought of a colleague in 2005. I have bought 2 straights bars and 1 eazy bar and many free weights and another dumbell set.

When exercising at home, I would set my weights for my planned exercises. As this would speed up my routine in the morning. Hence the various bars, weights etc.

Sadly have not use since before Covid. Must get back into routine.

But selling is not an option, as that means I am never going to excercise again.

@rh1 same here 😭
I relocated and it was still wrapped and packed in the garage. Just this week, I started setting it up. I had a foldable squat rack, now converted to a squat stand.

I am trying to figure if I can built a squat stand myself, seeing as the trojan bench is bolted together, no welds and stood up to the test of time.

If you are ok with used goods, you can find decent deals on FB marketplace.

You said squat hence mentioning below. Offer R1k and pretty sure he will be happy to get rid of it.

Gym stuff is quite an outlay. I bought one of these a little while ago while on special and I'm happy with it. I'm by no means a heavy lifter but it should hold up for the average guy. You do need a 1.8m+ bar otherwise your elbows will hit the rack.

I just have a separate trojan bench but I had to weld on extra support as it was flexing when doing bench presses so wouldn't recommend that one.

Check mifitness. They sometimes have good specials on second-hand goods after they do their challenges etc.

If you're handy with steel, this is a simple, small footprint design

Thanks for the replies, I will look into it

I'm also no heavy lifter but that's because I can't even progress with the costs of weight plates.

But once I get a new bench, I'll save up for more weights and better barbell. I currently using the shitty one that comes with this combo but hey, it works.

As for squats, I'll see in the future to just get a rack once I have some money available.
