Weight Loss Thread 2014

How? it's Fat Free, I will buy bananas and stuff then blend that, then I'll add honey.

What sugar are you talking about besides the fructose?

Fructose is one of the worse forms of sugar, as it happens.

Long story short, you've been pointed in the direction of the Real Meal Revolution, and there's more than enough info for you to get a handle on what we are all waffling about.

As has been mentioned, there are many ways to skin a cat, but this one (LCHF) has worked for many of us, myself very much included. It's a big paradigm shift, but the most up to date science tends to agree with the diet, and I can tell you that it works amazingly well (from late eighties to early seventies in under three months, and maintaining is easy - I can have steak and eggs for breakfast every day if I want to!).

I'll just throw this in again here...you don't have to go low carb high fat to lose weight. It is just one method that works. You can lose weight while eating carbs just fine.

/runs before the Noakalite zealots form a hunting party :P

Of course. I think it's (as mentioned) largely due to how helpful the Noakes book is in our local context. Makes it easy to follow and do, which is ultimately a very important aspect to a diet. It's also easier for those not of an inherently, erm, healthy persuasion, as on the surface it kind of feels like you are still stuffing yourself with life-murdering horror food. :D

I think I see that eating properly on its own really makes weight loss - been losing weight and I haven't gone to gym since last week, and I been eating "clean". Sitting on 85Kg now. Gonna go on thursday.

Man exam time is going to be tough... All I want is coke and cheese curls

I have my theory about this. Long endurance exercise require replenishment of sugars, salt and water. When you study, or write exams, the brain is exercised extensively, burning a lot of sugar. That is why people crave sweets and chips when studying or writing exams.

My guilty pleasure. Jelly tots and coke. I only crave it when I study or do a lot of 'brain' work.

80% nutrition, 20% exercise

You're both wrong. 100% dedication to both.

Losing weight makes you look good in clothes. Exercising makes you look good naked.

:D

Haven't exercised in any meaningful way in about five years (not good, I know).

Weight loss has been phenomenal, regardless.

Sorry for the linking to this, but if there is anyone else in Gauteng on the LCHF/Banting lifestyle who can contribute / comment on the following post, we are trying to list the best places/pricing to get ingredients required for various recipes:

Actually scary once you start realising the "hidden sugars" in food you would assume not to have (pickled onions as an example)

Switched to Atkins, last month now on 60 -70g carbs per day. Pizza is back in my life, albeit just a slice or two now and then.

Made some shepherds pie with caulimash last night, had some for lunch, yum! A varient I tried was to use garlic/parsley butter and diced turnips added to the mince.
