Weight Loss Thread 2014

Just poking questions about rice. There are millions of people in Asia that use as their staple YET they are slim and trim.
Is this maybe a secretly good carb? Maybe something to do with volume versus density?

Asians don't eat sweets like we do :D

I have also wondered this, but I am guessing there are multiple factors.

Remainder of diet
Activity level
Portion control
Genetics

Its nice to think things like "rice is ok" but thats how you get fat :D

In the last two weeks I've decided to cut back on my sugar intake. I normally drink 1 to 2 cans of coke a day (depending on how well I've slept), as well as a reasonable amount of sugar in my oats (plus whatever sneaks through in my other food).

I decided to change my breakfast to fruit (until I can find an alternative to processed sugar in my breakfast) and I've cut my coke consumption from 1-2 a day to 1 can every second day. In order to trick my brain/body into thinking it's getting its daily fizzy drink requirements I have purchased slightly flavoured sparkling water (I can't remember the name offhand). In 350mls of this sparkling water there is about 9 grams of sugar, compared to about 38 grams of sugar in a can of coke.

I wasn't exactly fat before, but I was getting a bit of a belly and I was quite surprised to see my weight drop from 65.5 to about 63kgs (I'm about 5"7/1.5m), with a very noticeable reduction around my belly over the last two weeks.

Just paid R26 for 500g Kerrygold cause stupid PnP's shelf price is always different to the scan price :D

So has anyone tried this "bullet proof coffee", interested in the health effects of it, but I am more interested in the taste of the coffee, not really planning on messing up my coffee's taste. So any feedback would be welcome

More about the general lack of nutrients and food that this is the case, that and "western" culture tends to over eat.

Yes. It's nice. Taste is subjective though.

I have a couple of questions which I have been mulling over for a while.

Nutritionally, is butter that much different from cream? Basically it's just cream that has been churned isn't it?

People tell me honey is healthy, but surely it's just a ton of sugar? Or it the sugar in honey better than cane sugar?

There's no such thing as healthy sugar...

That what I thought. I was just hoping there was a back-door that I could sneak some in. :D

Although I've not done too badly with the sugar. From more than one coke a day (500ml), I haven't had one at all since I started this, and have cut sugar out of my tea and coffee completely, although I'm not enjoying tea that much anymore. My coffee I often have with cream, which seems to compensate a bit for the lack of sugar. I'll have a little fruit from time to time, but that's about it really.

Yeah mister, and no idea how. lost 8, gained 11 :D
Even now I am fatter than when I started my last diet. Although I'll push this week and try get 2 down. How are you going? Any six pack yet?

No. I've also put on weight. I went away just before easter and never resumed healthy eating on my return. I've been eating a lot of trash in the evenings - damn winter!

I actually feel awful. I'm tired, lethargic, and hungry again all the time. And my digestive issues and bloating are back. **** you bread - time to say goodbye again.

Today is day 1 of Banting :)

Breakfast was good, but have to ask, I didn't use kerrygold butter and it might not be grass fed, is this completely nullifying everything else?

Also how many cups of coffee is "safe" a day? No sugar, just coffee, milk and water.

grass fed butter is generally better for you in terms of CLA, Omega 6 vs 3 ratios and a host of other benefits, whilst grain fed is not a train smash, it's the stacking effect of all other grain fed products like meat and eggs where the problem comes in.

Coffee I still do about 4 cups a day, one of which will be a full fat coffee, usually my first one of the morning

Ok makes sense, I am pretty sure most of my stuff is grain fed... Will have to get through it all and than try and source all grass fed stuff, will this make a huge impact on my weight loss?
