Weight Loss Thread 2014

Ok so as an exmaple if I had 3 or 4 cups of coffee with 1 xylitol in a day that would still be fine?

be cautious with xylitol it can also act as a laxative, some peoples tolerance is higher than others

also there is a link that has been established between taking in anything with a sweet taste and a psychosomatic insulin response, so even though you're not taking in a carb you still get an insulin response which can have an effect if you want to achieve a ketogenic state.

I think I mentioned in one of my posts yesterday that fructose will have an impact on the leptin response, if you feel hungry mid morning rather have biltong or cheese as a snack, some times I have a ham and cheese roll (a slice of country ham wrapped around a block of cheese, usually a Kiri but sometimes a slice of Gouda).

Why not Xylitol? Good for your teeth

Xylitol is only good for your teeth if you rinse your mouth with it - eating it will do bugger all!

Had a taste of the actuall xylitol plant...damn thing is sweeeeeeet.
But you also use a lot less xylitol as it's sweetness level is crazy high.

Xylitol is not a plant, I think you are confusing it with stevia

^This. My advice would be to pick stevia liquid drops (easy to dose), and slowly wean yourself off the sweet taste.

I'd stir the leaf in my coffee as is :D

That's odd.
Xylitol is not a plant. It comes from various sources and is processed.

Also the sweetness is about 70-80% of sugar.

It still has carbs

Maybe you talking of stevia??

What about this combination of erythritol and stevia extract.

Well my wife made it...

Fresh pumpkin cut into cubes.
Ghee in pan and slow fried with some Italian herbs and salt.

Point is why are u boiling the food? Also try and go fresh veggies rather than frozen

So there are a few things worth mentioning...

Xylitol is good for weaning yourself off sugar if you are struggling but not something you should replace sugar with. It is only about 40% lower in calories.

Pumpkin is not the lowest in carbs as far as veg goes. It is acceptable for lchf but if you are trying to lose weight you might not want to go big on orange veg.

Finally wrt The Real Meal Revolution orange list, this is something you can follow if you are trying to maintain weight. Also, as pointed out, the quantities are total carbs per day if you were to eat no other carbs. Personally, I only do the green list since I am trying (and succeeding) to lose weight. By the same token, you can not eat as much fat as you like. If you eat more calories than you burn, be it fat or otherwise, you will gain weight.

Eish. Now I'm really confused esp about not eating as much fat

Just to add to that. People often state harsh truths, especially about diets, which only make it harder to be motivated. I have been strict with myself and have not and will not cheat at all but for the first time I have not wanted to cheat. No sugar = no sugar cravings. Putting the time and effort into lchf meals has resulted in my not wanting to eat anything else. Weight loss as well as increased energy and concentration are all worth the effort. This is the best lifestyle choice I have ever made.

When you start, as long as you are not eating until you are feeling sick, you are fine. If you are 2 or more weeks in and not seeing results, you can cut back on total caloric intake (ie. fat). Generally people do not eat enough fat and are perpetually hungry, this leads to failure. Some people over compensate and do not lose weight but it is unlikely that you will gain. Just be sensible and all will be well, sorry to have thrown a spanner in the works...

Thanks.

I think most of us are trying to get used to the fat.
In my case it's trying to convince my wife to comply as she is the main cook in the home.
