Weight Loss Thread 2014

My short answer to that is bollocks

Since switching to LCHF my consumption of adhoc snacks like chips, biscuits, cakes, sweets, & chocolates has stopped, most of which are priced at a premium. I have also stopped drinking coke and beer (I still have the odd beer on occasion, but I'm not smashing back 4 a night anymore).

I avoid buying organic from Woolies or any other major chain as they just rip the ring out of it. In fact I'm buying less and less from normal retailers.

I'm fortunate that I'm close to a farmers market where I get free range, meat and dairy products of phenomenal quality at decent prices.

Dude wth... read your first and last lines and tell me you aren't detaching from reality. Most people in this thread don't have access to quality fresh farm produce, never mind at a good price, and you're extrapolating your situation to the whole population?

Besides, I'm sure I can recall some people in this thread complaining about the cost of moving to high fat diet. I might've been one of them :D
If you do a simple comparison of energy sources I think you'll struggle to find LCHF options cheaper than a regular diet.
bread/pasta vs nuts
vegetable oil vs coconut oil
etc.

This shouldn't be surprising since the agricultural industry has basically been engineered over some time to provide cheap carbs...

More like an industry taking advantage of nature.
Feeding food to animals to eat is simply more expensive than eating the food yourself. The feed conversion ratio is proof of this.

Read something interesting about ingredients on packaging. I might be the last one on earth to find this out but to anyone who doesn't know - ingredients have to be listed in descending order of mass as they are found in a product. So you will see the 90% choccie starts its ingredient list with cocoa solids while the flavoured Lindts list sugar as the first ingredient meaning there is more sugar than anything else in the choccie. Quick way to check what's inside your food.

Chilling at around 92kg, which puts me in the "normal" BMI range, not that that means much; and the lowest I've weighed since I was very young.

I've started being a little less restrictive in terms of vegetables in my regular diet, like beans, carrots, and butternut. I'm also treating myself to indulgences every now and then - I had a small pizza this last weekend after the Knysna half. Going to keep a close eye on the scale though.

Be careful, indulgences caused me to gain 11kgs, it can escalate fast

I have been doing the same thing for the last 2 months and have actually lost some more weight albeit a small amount.
The plus is not putting the weight back on and being able to eat fruit etc without feeling bad :p

Clearly there's a middle ground in there somewhere. Will be cautious! :)

I think the psychology of weight loss is much harder than the actual process of eating specific food.

Guess it also depends on your long term goals

Lost 3kg in around 5 weeks just by doing a bit of portion control. I would like to lose another 5kg to 8kg, but I am not in any kind of hurry.

85Kg, lost 11kg to date.Like a few others I'm eating more carbs now (Atkins) and a treat once a week.Still keep track of carbs though, but enjoy eating a bit of fruit and low GI bread, this I can easily sustain forever.
