Weight Loss Thread 2014

What is the best way to lose belly fat? I don't drink/ smoke and I'm a vegetarian.

I started going to Virgin Active last week and right now I'm mainly focusing on Cardio exercises. I just want to get my general fitness up to scratch. ( 20 minute treadmill, 20 cycling and 10 minute rowing) that's all I can muster right now.

The exercise helps get you fit but doesn't do squat for your belly. The only thing that helps there is diet. And if you are skinny fat like most Indian guys be prepared to lose weight everywhere else but your belly. That really is the last to go. I dropped from 58 to 45 just under 2 years ago. Even then my belly fat was never completely gone.

Went back up to 54 a year or so later - thanks Simba! Back down to 50 now but absolutely no sign of the waistline dropping.

You cannot target specific fat. You probably have the same problem as Shaun whose also a vegetarian

As a vegetarian, do you find yourself eating more carbs? Shaun and I blame that for our weight gain.

And this. As vegetarian's our diets are mainly carb based. I have learnt to cut out the roti's etc, but some things like potatoe are staple. My addiction was Simba chips. Cutting that out helped.

One thing I am noticing - My energy levels are non-existent.

It can take up to 14 days, sometimes longer for your body to become "keto adapted". After a lifetime of using sugar for energy it takes a while to adjust to burning fat. AFTER you have adapted I believe you do need some starch at least once a week, especially if you do any exercise. I have actually experienced better fat loss with a weekly carbo re-feed.

The old saying applies: a six-pack is created 75% in the kitchen and 25% in the gym.

Ya, I figured as much. Was just horrified when I tried to do something physical and nearly collapsed. :D

+1.

If I try to run, i get so light headed i want to die.

Oke so I'm still 3kgs from my target weight. I have in the meantime injured my leg and will not be running for the next week or so.
Sex : Yes Please ... Female
height: 1.75
Kgs : 62
Goal: 59

I wonder if I should give up on the last 3 kgs as I think i'm stating to build muscle and that will make the 59kgs a bit low?

So I might start a Mr Mila one.

I think he is sneeking food. He swears that he doesn't. But he gets the same lunch box and breakfast as I do and has not lost 1kg in the last 5 months.... I suspect he has a companion eater at his job.

Based on what you had for breakfast I'm not surprised he's not losing weight ;)

He complained about the amount of food I gave him. So I decided to skip the egg and sausage that was made for breakfast, Instead I added the protein to the flapjacks, it is the same amount of powder you would use in a breakfast smoothie. He has not complained yet. Yes we have a relationship where he will tell me it is not enough or to much. I do not take offence... he knows I'm not a very good cook and I take advice :o

yep, eggs everyday

FFC = 2 tablespoons butter + 2 tablespoons coconut oil + 2 tablespoons MCT oil + 2 tablespoons cream all blended into a cup of coffee, I usually add xylitol to replace sugar

 what is this magic!!!!

How many eggs do you have daily? And how does it affect the jam in your veins?

I have steadily been shedding the weight for the last 4-5 months. He is given the same as me. Today was the protein pancakes and yogurt for breakfast and veg and curry for lunch. Tonight we will have salad and chicken or fish.

You name the diet he has tried it.

Height 1.85
KGs 106
Target: 99kgs. If he hits that he will be motivated to carry on. BMI says he should be 78kgs. But that is to little according to the doctor. 90 would look good on his built.

I bought Crepe Coconut Oil from Vineyard Deli today as well, made a cup of coffee with a teaspoon of Coconut Oil, and teaspoon of Woolies full cream cream.
The coconut oil seems to float on top...?

You need to blend it I think.
