Weight Loss Thread 2014

Morning everyone

How are we all after the 1st official week on the challenge? My scale moved in the right direction this morning so im feeling very positive this morning.

Its amazing how well one can eat on the weekend if you're broke and waiting for payday. :D I actualy spent my weekend in the gym instead of in a mall.

Well, I'm dropping, but seem to be slowing down, as to be expected. Lethargy seems to be getting better, so I think I am adjusting to the crazy diet change.

Accidentally ate biltong and a pickle yesterday. Which are filled with festering sugar I discovered afterward!

I'm still exactly the same weight. Better than picking up I guess.

Not in on the challenge, but have a few questions on this LCHF thing:

How much of an impact will having sugar/carbs have (having more than the amount allowed)? Are you screwed for an hour, day, week? Are any cheat days allowed?
Am I correct in saying eating a high fat/protein meal will lessen the impact of sugar/carbs eaten afterwards?
Bread, any replacement that I can buy? Would make the transition easier if I didn't have to bake that myself.
Working out - I assume once the transition is over its a simple matter of listening to your body and you'll get the required energy in without issue?
And finally, what mixers can I use with Vodka? I dont drink often anymore (maybe 4 units a week), but it's currently with Sprite.
Or is all the above answered in the books mentioned already in this thread (just got started with The Real Meal Evolution)?

@ Copa - really don't wanna read the whole thread but I'm curious, what do you do in the form of exercise? Is it that that was causing your lethargy or the actual dietary change?

Well, besides the challenge here, I have also entered into a "Biggest Loser" type challenge with my wife, brother-in-law and father-in-law. It is going to be run over 8 weeks, with all of us putting in a cash amount that will go to the winner at the end of the 8 weeks.
The winner is going to be the person with the largest percentage weight loss, but we are also tracking BMI, fat %, water %, and muscle %.
My wife in currently in the lead on 1.6% down in the 1st week, with the 3 men all sitting on 1.4% down.
We were away camping this weekend, so it was a bit of a cheat weekend. I am back to my original weight, this after weighing on Friday morning... That means I up up around 1.2kg in one weekend :wtf:

Without sharing TMI, I haven't been very regular at the moment, and I did eat a lot of the wrong foods and drank too much this weekend. Gonna try get back on track this week with eating correctly and exercising regularly. At the moment my wife and I aren't following any diets or anything, but just trying to each the right kind of foods, which can be difficult at times. She suffers with IBS, so she has already cut out most carbs, and all wheat products, which I will also eventually try cut out.

Any suggestions on eating plans/programs to follow? (Don't have time to read through this thread at the moment).

I have been alarmingly sedentary for the last couple of years. The fatigue seems to be an expected part of the dietary change, and I think my brief bout of exercise during the transition was a bit overwhelming to my body.

Lol ok. I started getting healthy about 3 weeks back and started the LCHF thing last week. Am doing swimming and other workouts every day and while it does poop me out, it doesn't last very long before I'm feeling energetic again. Was just worried by your post that it may have been something bad (the lethargy) still coming like.

a fair portion of this is answered in the book, although in more generic terms. The thing is you have to determine for yourself what is more than "allowable" carbs as that various based on independent physiology. It's also dependent on how often you taken in more than your "allowable" limit - "allowable" can range from 20-100g a day. The simple fact is any excess carbs will be converted to fat.

If you really want bread then factor it into your carb limit and go low GI, less of an insulin impact, otherwise look for low/no carb alternatives such as copa's cloud bread.

Yes you will get the required energy without an issue.

I drink Vodka with sparkling mineral water or soda and a small dash of lime or fresh lemon juice

And the other cheeses?

so long as it's a natural cheese, not the highly processed stuff it's okay

my cheese container usually has Gouda, Mozarella, Feta, Woolies Boerenkaas, Camembert, Haloumi, Cheddar (usually with chilli), Kiri or other cream cheese

oh and goats milk Chevin, goats milk cheeses are awesome
