Weight Loss Thread 2014

I think it may be a case of LCHF being self-restricting? I.e. it makes you feel fuller quicker, you can only eat so much fat before you can't go on?

Oh no I can carry on eating butter whether I'm full or not. It's very easy being high calorie when your coffee has a couple tablespoons of coconut oil and butter, and you smother everything with butter, and supplement your omega 3s.

My kitchen has mct oil, coconut oil, butter, ghee, lard, beef tallow, lamb tallow, duck fat, sesame oil, olive oil, pumpkinseed oil, flax oil, fish oil, hemp seed oil, and I'm sure I've left out a few.

I know about that and videos come across like a bad verimark commercial. I am looking for a controlled study to back that up.

Specifically with people not in training of any form or shape.

I recall seeing some in either Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes, or his newer book, I forget which.

Sweet. I have those books - will go and reread em and do some research of my own into this.

AGAIN - not disputing the principle (in case some LCHF zealots are en route to my house to burn me)

I'm around 11% bodyfat now and I'm consuming more calories than I did when I was fat, so I've never really bothered to look into the studies with a fine toothed comb.

I'm happy with the way I look now, the only reason I'm staying on the diet is because I feel so freaking fantastic! I just cannot tolerate carbohydrate in the day... I lose my mental clarity and get hungry again soon after. When I do choose to eat carbs it's always in the evening now so it does not hamper my daytime performance.

That is great % to be at! May I ask your height and weight?

I am at 14% now down from 19% at the start of the year and at 96kg.

170 / 58

I'm trying to gain muscle now, so when I eat carbs it is after an evening workout. Nothing says grow (muscle or fat cells!) like insulin does!

Agreed!

This is why I take a good dose of dextrose with my post workout shake. Straight glucose to the blood right into the muscle.

Yep! Spike that insulin! I'm supplementing with leucine powder as well.

Please go ahead and eat in excess of say...5000 calories a day on LCHF and report back on your statement.

In fact if possible please point me to study where this was tested.

I see the boys have already preempted me with some good info, well done lads, keep up the good work :D

I absolutely love his stuff too. And I completely agree with the blog post linked regarding the calorie value and effect it has. His science is also rock solid.

And even he agrees that a protein quantity in active individuals should be around 1.5g protein per kg weight per day along with a minimum calorie requirement before your body start catabolising muscle.

I cringe at what a calorie restricted, low fat diet combined with cardio did to me about ten years ago. Talk about muscle catabolism. Ai... if only I had known then what I know now...

True that, when Im not sure about something I go check what he says. Its always long and generally quite technical but it covers the bases.

I'm doing the LCHF thing as a test subject for my mom who helps run the program in zim and just to see what it does to me. I'm 100% on diet except weekends where I cheat with a few beers before switching to whiskey but stick to the right foods.

Anyway that's just the back story, what I'm having trouble with is finding stuff to drink(non alcoholic). I'm so bored of water constantly and it's too friggin hot for me to drink tea and coffee this time of year.

Any suggestions? And is there such a thing as low carb milk, or is that just cream?

Dinner 6 pieces of chicken legs
Mayo
Sweet chilli sauce
Coffee
Milk
Sugar
