Weight Loss Thread 2014

Your biggest issue with butter is whether it's from pastured or grain fed cows. All grain feed animals impact the omega3/6 balance stored in their fat, more 6s in grain fed than pastured hence why you need to aim for free range everything

Free range does not mean pastured.

I will be doing some more research on this...at present I simply cannot justify the increase in price for some of the butter brands when the only difference is the content of omega 6/3 ratio. Which is not a problem as I supplement O3's in a good amount on a daily basis.

Went with Clover for now - was on special. Took salted. Will try Lurpak or Kerrigold next and make up my own mind on taste.

Basically if you can afford it and prefer the taste go with the Kerrigold. I just use el cheapo spar butter because I can't justify the extra expense for such a slight difference.

Yes we should all go, pasture fed, free range, organic etc etc everything but it's just not possible for most things. Eat better and you'll feel better, don't aim for perfect or you'll be crying under the table in 2 days.

I'll have to sell my table to be able to afford Kerrigold....

We cut out 95% of bread/rolls etc. So we hardly use butter. I will fry some eggs in the morning in it. A 500g Kerrigold will last us a month easily.

Cutting out the lc bread but butter will stick around. Was using it before for veggies and eggs and stuff anyway :)

doesn't mean much without indication of portions

I know, I'm not counting portions. Some things I simply cut-out completely like rice and pasta. Some things lower on the pyramid I will eat, but in moderate portions.

Korn: I agree, cheese should be lower. :)

I don't count calories or keep track of carbs.

Sitting on 97.7kg....just thought I should put this update here.

Gonna get back to gym tomorrow. Will have to re-work my timing :)

Free range is usually grain fed :(

I think that depends on the nature of the farmer, so free range chickens for example may have some grain in their diet but the diet is not totally grain as in battery chickens, same with free range beef, the herd can still feed off grasses but are supplemented with grain at times as opposed to pure grain fed beef, in my view free range is still the better option

Oh I totally agree that free range is better, but free range can also mean grain fed and free to kick the dusty ground up!
