Weight Loss Thread 2014

OK, so confession time.

When I first made the RMR bread, I didn't really pay attention to this part:

2 cups milled flax seed

I instead took two cups of flax seed, milled those, and baked the bread with it. Just before I made my second loaf a while ago, I looked at it again, paused, then wondered why there wasn't any clarification.. My dry ingredients were already mixed, so I just ended up adding more egg and more water.

The milled flax seed occupies a lot more volume than the seed, and while I really enjoyed the bread the last time I made it, I wondered why mine was so dense while the picture made their version seem so fluffy.

2nd loaf is in the oven now, will see what's what.

that probably explains the difference between our respective results, I wasn't measuring the flax seed at all, I was measuring the milled powder

:wtf:

MCT's are absorbed by the liver and used for energy in a way that will increase your calorie consumption and quality weight gain.

MCT's contain twice as many carbohydrates as carbohydrates and so are a great source of energy which is easily utilised by the body. The MCT;s enable the body to spare muscle protein and carbohydrates and instead use the MCT;s for energy. A very small percentage of MCT's are stored as fat, which means that it is ideal for supplying an energy that wont store as fat, unlike carbohydrates.

:wtf:

RandomDesign's question this morning has got me going down a research rabbit hole again (they're always so deep and convoluted) this time on coconut oil and MCTs. I'm attempting to avoid confirmation bias (looking for evidence that supports my own point of view, which I think I may have been guilty of this morning in my links in response to his query) I'll let you guys know what I find, right now I've found a few things that raise enough of a question mark that I'm stopping my daily intake of CO and MCT as part of a personal experiment.

I'm very interested in your research and any findings.

What diet are you on?

If you're doing a keotegenic (maybe paleo?) diet, you can make your own and it's all good.

Yes, just not very high fat though. We are cutting back on fat as it seems to not work for mr Mila.

Had my first cauliflower mash this evening ....... for someone who hates cauliflower, it was pretty damn tasty on a cottage pie. Good substitute.

http://www.healthmatrix.co.za/ has MTC oil 500ml for R125. Is this legit?

Good find. 500ml of bulletproof upgraded MCT is R150 excluding vat & delivery. I've ordered some of the healthmatrix MCT to compare it to the upgraded one. Three tablespoons of upgraded gives me disaster pants, so I'll soon know if the matrix one is as strong haha.

What does coconut oil taste like in BP coffee?

Nice... But I got sick of it and much prefer the neutral taste of MCT.

The ketogenic diets for epilepsy have always used powdered forms, and there are various supplements available here, but I've always been put off by the idea. I don't think they focus on quality...

Keep us posted on your findings mister.
