Weight Loss Thread 2014

<snip>....Also, I need to go shopping for new clothes soon.

Congrats on breaking the barrier...

I basically have to change all my clothes. Dropped from a size 40 to 34 pants. So nothing fits even closely and looks horrendous when I do wear it with a belt.

But damn! Clothes are expensive and I'm not even talking name brand stuff. I like wearing plain T-shirts and golf shirts with the occasional small logo on it. Even those items are in excess of R150-R200 these days. If it is below that it is most likely extremely thin material used, as I found out with the 4 new t-shirts I bought from Edgars. Crap crap quality.

Pants are mostly jeans and then some cargo shorts for summer. Also looking at about R300 a piece for decent quality.

/broke soon

Im holding off on buying new clothes for now because I want to lose a little more but it will be soon.
Its good to see that people are having results though.

I seriously need to lay off the chocolates and chips...

Funny enough, I thought I would have insanely gained weight, but I am sitting on 86Kg now....was 85Kg.

I finally broke through 100kg this morning - first time in 10 years. When I started this in January, I promised myself pizza (once) when this happened. Funny, now I don't even feel like it anymore. Also, I need to go shopping for new clothes soon.

Congratulations dude! :D Keep up the great work!!

Right I have a question. Can a person who is on thrombosis therapy (Commercialised Rat Poison aka Warfarin) be put on a LCHF diet to lose weight? My dad suffers from thrombosis and will be on Warfarin for the rest of his life, ever since he stopped smoking he has ballooned in size and now weighs in at ~125kg. (From 70 kg)

He has said he wants to lose weight, but because of the inconvenience of having to cook 2-3 different dishes for one meal is not motivated to or simply doesn't want to.
I have had 2 DVT's and am on warfarin for life. The only issue I have experienced since switching to LCHF is my INR, or warfarin level, dropped under 2 which is dangerous and can result in another clot/DVT. AMPATH are currently drawing my blood more frequently and upping my dosage and I am back in the mid to high 2's again which is safe.

From the reading I did online, it seems that when our bodies change to burning fat instead of carbs, it changes something in our blood. Higher dosage is an easy fix.

Bottom line is that warfarin users should have their blood tested more regularly when switching to LCHF.

Need some advise...

I was on atkins since last year August and lost a healthy 14Kg by December. Since then I have been banting but just cant seem to loose anymore weight. I am stuck between 88 and 89kg. I eat 3 eggs and 100g of bacon daily, braai every night with a salad or veg and usually same meat in the afternoon. I do enjoy a red wine in the evening, mostly 2 glasses. I suspect it might be the wine preventing weightloss. Can wine really have such a big effect or is there something else?

Hope you guys can help.

I have found that a 24hr carb binge has helped me get past a stall in the past - have you tried this?

As with anything you will lose weight till you reach a level where the food you consume supports the current weight you are at.

If you eat the same and you are not losing anymore then one of two things will need to change.

Either what you eat in terms of quantity or substance.

Or start a training program perhaps. Walking, jogging, swimming, lifting etc. Take your pic.

No I have not. How does it work? Just go crazy on carbs, like pizza and beer?

I don't have any scientific proof - but when I was stuck for 2-3 weeks, I went to a friend's party and went mad with Flying Fish beer and snacks (sausage rolls / samoosa's you name it). Next day I got back on LCHF and the weight started falling off again.

I weight 99kg and my stomach is like balloon how can i become slim again please help

I'm getting married next year and I must have to loose weight :(

Also known as a refeed. Depending on bf% etc your refeed frequency will vary etc. What this carb refeed does, in laymans terms, is reset leptin levels which assists in weight loss.

Many many many threads on the science and function behind this on a lot of fitness sites.

just be careful with things like ribs as they tend to be marinated and there's sugar in the marinade, aim more for natural cuts of meat, lamb/pork chops, steaks and then you can make a nice cream or butter based sauce for flavour

Aah! You are right!! Ok point taken :) Thank you very much for this tip OMB!

I moved from banting to Atkins and eat 60-70g of carbs daily, this includes 2 slices of lo gi bread and two or three glasses of red wine daily, still losing weight slowly but surely.

Atkins imho is more sustainable as you can eat carbs as long as you keep track of them.As an example I made some lovely nutritious veg soup last night at 7,5g carb per serving, mutton curry with beans and lo gi rice 12,5g carb per serving, these are foods I used to miss while banting due to the low fat content.

I'm also lactose intolerant so can only eat butter, etc in moderation.

Well this is why lchf is exactly that. Low Carb...not No Carb.

Reading the literature it is advised to consume around 50g of nett carbs a day. Many people overlook this.

However I do agree that Atkins is more protein dominant which many people would prefer. I have many friends who simply can't stomach the quantity of fat that they need on a pure lchf eating plan.

Too each his own and do what works :D

What would the correct amount of fat be?

I agree stick with what works for you, my problem was missing out on old faves like pizza, peanut butter samies, ice cream, fruit, etc. I now enjoy these in moderation and fit them into my carb intake, while still topping up with lo carb veggies and salads.
