Weight Loss Thread 2014

So to be honest I fell off the health bus and can only imagine how much weight I would have lost.

This time my wife and I are both doing Paleo from Sunday. Will see how it goes

good luck :)

To the banters who have done well - who included gym an did you find it increased weight loss and were there any side effects (eg increased hunger)? (Have read the whole thread a while back but can't remember)

I am not a big fan of excercise but the gym bug has bitten me out of the blue since being back on the low carb wagon. Going at 5am tomorrow on my way to work and the cold will either wack me to my senses or I will enjoy it.

I didnt gym at all when I was banting seriously but with all the protein Im sure it will be good for gymming.

I went, I worked then I died...

My job is hectic so I only spend an hour max a day at my desk, with the rest of the time running around between sites and then serving on the counter at our business. After waking up at 4:30am and then gyming, I was buggered at 5pm when I got home.

I think I will avoid gym for a while and see how the weight loss goes without it.

Yeah look if you are going from Gonubie and you gym before work its going to bite you in the ass bigtime when it gets later in the day!!
I used to gym after work then head back a bit later when the traffic was mostly cleared.

banting

Hi guys, im new here. I'm looking to loose about 15kg. One employee of mine is loosing his weight by following the banting dieet and reading tim noakes book like a bible. Now before i go buy the book and try it out i have a question. As far as i understand the banting dieet is a high fat intake dieet. My dad side of the family has history of bad heart, diabeties and block artiries. Wont this mean ill get into trouble with this dieet? (i know fat = sugar)

I'd strongly advise not taking health advise from the internet (solely), but the latest body of evidence suggests that LCHF is safe for those with such medical problems - In fact, there are those who would claim that it can have a hugely positive effect on those conditions.

End of the day - Read the book, read other books, research as much as you can, read papers, speak to an amenable medical professional, and make an educated decision.

Here's a good place to start:

Read the whole site.

I cant say for sure if you will or not, the diabetes you are safe with, sugar is the enemy in this diet.
One thing though, fat does not equal sugar. Excess sugar gets converted into fat.
The blocking of arteries and the old plumbing model (veins and arteries being like pipes) was just some theory a doctor had and is not actually true, there is a whole lot more to it.
The bottom line is talking to your doctor about if it is safe will not help, the current doctors were all still trained in the old nutrition pyramids so they think that is the correct way.

If you come from a family line of heart disease I would recommend the following book:

http://www.amazon.com/The-Great-Cholesterol-Myth-Disease-/dp/1592335217

It is a new book, well written, and very easy to read.

Hi. Don't know if I'm allowed to post it here but I have some extra tubs of Crede Organic Virgin Coconut Oil that I'm not going to use. Pm me for details if you're interested in buying some. I'm in Jhb.

It's not a good idea to sell second hand food items. Rather donate it somewhere.

It's definitely not second hand. It's brand new, sealed containers and it only expires in 2016. I've ordered in bulk so I have a couple of containers extra.

I still think you should donate it to a worthy cause.

I might have a problem...
Got on the scale at gym, and was shocked to see it at 69kg. Checked at home this morning, and 69kg (and 11.2% BF according to the scale). I'm 1.83m with what I think is a small frame (wrists are 17.3cm) but even then most places I've looked say my ideal weight is around 70-76kg. The problem is I'm never really hungry. Yes, in the mornings I know I need to eat, and same around dinner time, but its not hunger per say. And I cheat (I'm on LCHF) once a week to the point where I'm beyond full, I also eat too much protein at least once a week at braai's. Should I simply try adding a bit more to every meal? I dont want to wither away :p
