Weight Loss Thread 2014

1) The research was on Japanese subjects, who happen to have quite a lower risk to CHD anyway. This has been attributed to their diet (full of tasty carbs such as rice BTW) and genetics.

2) The paper I linked also explained that the different types of cholesterol have different risk factors. Cholesterol from eggs for example is much better for you than the cholesterol from foods fried in sunflower oil.

3) The paper I linked mentioned that there is an increase of CHD due to the westernisation of their cuisine. Namely high fat diets and low exercise.

FTFY

So eating rice with most meals now counts as low carb?

You are wrong in this. They have a lower rate of heart disease and this is linked to their diet, which happens to be quite low in fat.
The increase in heart disease, if it is linked to diet, is the result of eating more western food. Which is typically higher in fat than fish, rice, vegetables and chicken.

This weekend is cheat weekend. Last night was half a slab of Lindt 85% and tonight we are trying the "Caring Candies" bon bons (sugar and carb free - sweetened with natural sweetner). The bon bons are awesome and highly recommended!

I am querying the validity of the glycemic index of those maltitol based chocolates. They claim it to be zero.

I have seen other brands with the same ingredients that declare a glycemic index of 51 which is in keeping with the info for maltitol in general.

See link and other chocolate example.

Anyone can validate this?

Funnily enough, I just tried one of their dairy free chocolates. Was very sweet and didn't enjoy it. Hopefully tonight's Club Steak does not get insulin stored :-/

GI isn't the percentage of carbs per 100g though.
Maltitol is not glycaemic from what I can remember. But too much of it will give you the shiiiits!

/edit I see it is glycaemic. So I'd steer clear of it unless you need a laxative
