Hey guys,

My friend has got a really weird problem with his ADSL. About a week ago a line card got fried in his exchange and it got replaced. Since then he has been struggling to connect to the internet. He is with Cybersmart, and they lock your account to your port at the exchange and I told him that he must call them to get it reset. Did that, and it appeared as if solved his problem, but got a new problem a couple of nights ago. Only some websites want to open and others don't. Only a select few local ones open and only a select few international ones open. I helped him numerous times now, but sometimes he can access his router, other times he can't. It worked with wireless, but when his adsl went down, we had to reconfigure and it only worked with ethernet until I could configure it again for wireless.

He formatted yesterday, and all appeared well, but he can only access one website: games.saix.net. Does any1 know why he can only access one website, or only a few select ones ? He has a Telscum Mega100r router, I also took my spare router (a Microcom wireless one, which I only used for about 3 weeks) and it gives him the same problem. He uses Vista, and in the network and sharing center it shows his pc, connected to the network, but from the network it doesn't want to establish a connection with the internet earth globe. If you click on that little X, to run diagnose and repair, it just says it doesn't detect anything wrong with the network. He isn't capped, and he can connect to his account just fine, as we can see this in the router.

I really know my stuff when it comes to configuring pc's, networks etc, and especially his pc, but this is really starting to irritate me know, because I can't seem to fix this problem.

Any ideas or suggestion welcome.

Thanks

*EDIT*

I just got an sms from him, saying that Cybersmart can't ping him, and that they will phone him back, he can still only access games.saix.net and telkoms website apparently, but he said that Cybersmart will phone him back, will keep you guys updated.

Must be something on his computer.

Disable all protection for a minute or two and see what happens?

Hey antowan, we did disable his firewall, but really didn't seem to have any effect whatsoever. I entered cybersmart's dns addresses manually as well, but didn't help either..

You really know your stuff?
Telkom routers come with guest accounts that can only access the telkom websites.
Sounds like a buggy router.
To elimante his computer as a problem, take a lappie and try it at his house.

Edit: Sorry just a bit grumpy this morn

Hehehe no problem Synergy ;)

My spare router also gives that same problem at his house, so I highly doubt that it could be router oriented as I used my own router for about 3 weeks without problems before I bought myself a new Billion 7300G for half-bridge functionality in Vista.

Unfortunately I don't have a laptop to use to go and test at his premises, but will hear what cybersmart has to say once he let's me know. I think its a telkom problem at the exchange...only time will tell.
