I have a 2011 Citroen C4 THP and started having some aircon issues. It has a dual zone climate control.

First issue is that the aircon would randomly not come on. Neither the fan or compressor. It usually works first thing in the morning but if I switch off the car and restart it, the aircon would not come back on.

Second issue, when it does work, the driver side does not heat up when the temp is set high. Only the passenger side heats up. Even with the recirculate mode off, the driver side still does not get any heat.

The cold setting does work, only the heat setting that doesn't work and only on the driver side.

I've had it checked for gas and it's still full. CT mornings are getting cold and need the heat to demist the windscreen in the morning, especially when it rains. At least I have heated seats to keep me a bit warm.

Any one know of a good aircon guy in CT that can have a look. Also cannot afford to have the car in a workshop overnight.

Car heaters don't use your aircon compressor for heat.

What everyone else is saying, the heater portion doesn't come from the aircon side. If the cold portion is working than your aircon is fine. Try just turning on the fan with the heat turned all the way up and the aircon turned off.

If the temp is lower than or the same as you select in the climate control then the aircon won't come on, sure it's not that?

That^^^

I'm sure it's not that. Normally if I turn the dial to the high setting, the fan will be faster. the fan is not going on and the cabin does not heat up.

I know the compressor is not used for heat but the problems seam to be linked.

Just went to the car now and the aircon does not switch on. The controls are working but nothing happens.

This is what happens:

The first time the car is started for the day, the aircon works, all controls function, heat is disitributed only to the passenger side. No heat on the driver side. Outside temp was 6deg and the control in the car was set to 28 so the problem is not related to temperature being the same.

Switch car off and on again, aircon does not go on. All controls are working but does not make any change to what is coming out of the vents. The fan also does not come on and changing the fan speed does nothing. Switching the aircon off also does nothing and the fan still does not go on.

i know that the climate control will maintain the inside cabin temp and the compressor will only come on when the temp is outside the range of the settings on the control. This is not the problem as I can change to 14 (lowest setting) to 28 (highest setting) has no effect.

Initially I thought it might be a fuse but the manual does not indicate the location of fuses for the aircon/climate control. Also, why would it work in the morning but not the rest of the day.

It sounds like the controller unit (worst case) or resistor on the blower fan is giving up the ghost.
I'm leaning more to the controller since only one side is working...

Did you test it over longer drives yet?

Hope it's not the controller.

I tested it yesterday in my one hour commute to work. I switched everything off of the aircon halfway through the drive and it would not go back on again. Ignition was not switched off.

Airlock in the cabin radiator on the driver side or the valve is stuck or broken. (The latter is more likely)

Thanks

How to test if this is the case? Possible DIY check? Or a good aircon repair company.

Car is out of warrantee so not taking it to the dealership.

I think it is going to be difficult to diy, these things are usually in quite hard to reach places. You could try a Citroen forum, perhaps. Otherwise an aircon shop might be your best bet.
