This is my first post on this site and Im in such desperate need of help.

I just changed isps and noticed that my broadband cap is being used much faster than usual I was using about 5% per day even though I was surfing for maybe a fraction of what I normally do. This started happening last week thursday. last night over a three hour period and six emails back and forth with my new isp I was losing bandwidth constantly, over the three hour period 455 MB's dissapeared even though I did not surf, I checked my mail account manually, wifi was off, skype off, no updates done... the only thing that got my broadband monitor to stay at 0 was eventually changing the password with my isp, it literally came to a screeching halt.

After much debate they have now reimbursed me for the "lost bandwidth"... but I still feel like something weird is happening, I just downloaded a bandwidth monitor because of this and noticed that just doing a simple google search uses half a MB, just going to google opening this account, verifying the account and then posting this thread has used 8 MB's is this normal?

no auto updates? do u have a wifi router? is the wireless turned off? or is wireless security turned on with a good password and encryption?

Depending on the ISP u can lock down the account to your DSL line too, i would do that also. No other shared machines perhaps? final resort could be an infection too, scan the system with a good AV.

The wifi is turned off and has been for three days, my isp says that it they are positive that the account is not being accessed by another line, thankfully im not losing as much bandwidth but losing 10 mb for just basic surfing seems realy excessive.... thats the thing thing that's grating at my nerves now...
