weird crash errors (winxp sp2) - help ?

ok not sure how to exactly describe it, but here goes

i will be working, then all of a sudden there will or will not be a flicker- and it seems like the UI of windows all of sudden goes bonkers and i'm left with mostly grays with here and there maybe a icon but its totally messed up and worng.

then if in that state it will flicker and then back to the grays.

i have done a virus scan, i have killed out all programs except thats needed to run. seems random though.

any ever heard of this before ?
 
...this does go away if i alt+f4 something... :confused:

its been everything; i had outlook open, fire fox, task manager, windows messenger.... once it said (being paint) there is not enough memory- which is also weird because there is enough, cant really be a memory leak because i did watch all the things and there werent any...
 
hey, my screen goes black sometimes whilst on a webpage but if i run my cursor over the screen the underlying page starts to open in sections, i also have a problem when opera gives me an error and shuts down.

is my first description the same as yours Necuno?

like that but mine goes gray first, and then when i try something it comes in parts or there is a full screen flicker, but when i use alt+f4 to close the last opened thing it goes away.... weird....

but this is not only with a browser its totally random.

have done a virus scan, have killed of all processes except what windows needs to run.

but still it happens.
 
hmmm i will try that alt+f4 when mine goes black next time to see what happens, this stuff is annoying now.
 
well going todo a full spyware/worm scan, then SFC /scannow. after that im not sure....
 
Sounds like your GPU is poked and on its way out. You could try reload the drivers or download newer drivers and see if that resolves your issue.
 
its the dell opti plex 745

1300 ati
1.86 dual core, intel
2 gig ram
win xp sp 3 ( oops got title wrong there heeh )
not sure about the m/b


ill try reloading drivers and see how hot the gpu get, maybe it sink is falling off or something like that

I'd suggest updating your video drivers. It sounds like graphical corruption to me, which might be solved with newer drivers. Might also be a hardware fault, but let's not get ahead of ourselves :p
 
or maybe i just need a new work pc....:D

alt+ f4 closes an app, so it looks like some app (game?) is messing with your video settings and messing them up.

Try alt+tab to see if you can change focus to another app
